    Guinness is over priced. IMO.

Beamish more consistant and 50 cents cheaper.

Not from there but the best Pint of Guinness I've had was in Longford in some pub called the Valentine I think.

The worst was at an Irish Fair we came across while in Munich...There were 6 Irish people,Four of us,The guy at the set up bar stall and the dude on stage...We watched as the Germans clapped in sync to the Irish dancing...It was both magnificent and eery.

    O'Connell's in Brideswell Co. Roscommon.

The Guinness there is the best I've ever had.

That said, Guinness is a fairly average beer.

Give me a pint of O'Hara's any day.

The shítter/older/dirtier the pub, the better the guinness

In Dublin ,The Red Windmill and Doyle s both in Phibsborough .Where i am now in Chiang Mai ,the Red Lion near the night market .

PS,I like the Porter house stouts also .They have a bar in Phibsborough by cross guns bridge .

+ Mulligans in Poolbeg street have always been famous for their Guinness and it is better there than average .Also its nice to have a pint at the Guinness brewery in the glass bar up on the roof .Great views on a good day all over the City and to the Dublin mountains .

I'll have to give a +1 to Grogans

The pint is best when served with one of their toasties. Amazing.

Living in phibsboro all my life and you have picked the 2 worst pubs for beer full stop never mind guinness..
The red windmill is now closed down and Doyles should be.
Have had really bad pints in both years ago and never went back, both have really bad reputation for their beer.

In Phibsboro you have around 3 or 4 choices.

The hut- Great little pub, great pint of guinness, yummy toasted sandwiches and bowls of stew.

The bohemian- absolute kip, patrons are mad but the guinness is delish and one of the cheapest around, grand place if you mind your own business.

The Phibsboro House- Bit of a clicky pub, if they don't know you they will give you the look, guinness is great though.

The best pint of guinness I have had in Dublin was in the Strawberry Hall out by the strawberry beds, absolutely amazing guinness and very consistent from first pint to last.

Mooneys in Monasterevin, Co. Kildare. Great pint in there.

Belgard Inn in Tallaght does a (very) surprisingly good Guinness.

    The Holy Trifecta.

    Mulligans,
Grogans (with Ham & Cheese with Mustard Sandwich),
    Brogans

the gravediggers is massively overrated these days.

The best pint I've had in dublin in aeons was the windjammer, mulligans did a good pint but I havent been there in years tbh

"Clicky" - WTF does this mean?

Judging from the context, I reckon he means there is a 'clique' vibe in the place.

Round Mullingar I'd say Wallace's on Mount St. is about the best. Outside town Gunning's of Rathconrath is exceptional, keg under the counter.

In Dublin Cleary's on Amiens St. is about the best I've ever tasted.

First they came for the socialists...

    >>The red windmill is now closed down <<

Sorry to hear that .Used to go there for a drink with the Da ,at least once a week before he died .Doyles used to be good before they changed ownership about 3 or 4 years ago .

    WTF does this mean?

It means what is says, I am from the northside :)

There is a bit of a click as in everyone knows everyone else so if a stranger comes in people tend to look at them.
I know the spelling is incorect but thats what we say, sorry if I confused you.

Both pubs used to be good.
I worked as a barman in phibsboro in the early 90's when both those pubs were class.
As you said, since they have changed hands, they have gone downhill.
    Pity really.
I agree about the gravediggers aswell, used to be amazing for Guinness but last few times I was there it was dreadful.
Still a very unique pub though and worth a visit.

The bar in on the left in Coppers.

Ask for it to be poured from the left pump though., not the right.

    Heavenly.

Had a few in the Railway just across the road from Portarlington Train station. not the greatest pub but a seriously nice pint of the black.

In Dublin, Ryans of Parkgate St and the Dawson Lounge do lovely pints. Fletcher's in Naas is another good spot.

  • Registered Users Posts: 317 ✭✭Handy11

The Revels in Rathfarnham put out consistently excellent Guinness.

Houghs in Banagher is my favourite pub in the world and also has class Guinness. No cold room - the kegs are kept inside the bar. Quality.

Had delicious pints in Toners and Donoghues just before Christmas. 13 pints (including one in McDaids) and no hangover whatsoever the next morning.

Other ones that come to mind:

    The Brewery Tap - Tullamore
    Mutton Lane - Cork
    Dick Macs - Dingle
    Neachtains - Galway
    Freeneys - Galway
The Blue Light - up past Stepaside
    The Cobblestone - Smithfield

    Ryans on Parkgate St., Dublin
Gravity Bar at The Guinness Experience

    In Donegal I'd go for:
    1. Pat Bonners in Ballybofey
    2. Biddy's o Barnes
But really there so many places to get a good pint of it up our way!

Loved the few I had in Kehoe's earlier this year in Dublin!

Mulligans is over rated and Brogans hasn't been at its best in a while. Chaplins and McTurkells do a better pint than Mulligans, cheaper and with out all the suits in the bar.

    Best pint of Guinness:

    Una Powells in Nenagh, Tipp
The Lame Duck in Clonara, Clare

Both places are tiny and have the kegs under the bar, as far as I know :D

    Agree 100%

A lot of it is in the mind.

    But special mention to

Tigh Cholli and Taffes on Shop St. Galway. That's if you can push your way to the bar in either place. You'll have to kick over a fiddle player and climb on top of a couple of tourists to get to the bar :-(

Also the little olde mans Pub round the corner from James Gate in Dublin. A lot of the old heads from (what's left of) the Brewry drink in there .. says it all really. :-)

Over in the UK most, if not all barmen/woman don't believe in the two part pour and pour it like a pint of ale! All down the glass in one go!

I am too mannerly to say anything...more a fool me!
