Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
we are having an official launch party this coming Friday 29th of July and Im considering at short notice hiring a press photographer.
How much should I expect to pay for say 2 hours and what should I expect from this?
Thanks in advance for any tips/advice....

if it's newsworthy, i don't expect you'd have to pay for the photographer.
if it's not newsworthy, it wouldn't be a press photographer you'd hire...

that wasn't particularly helpful of me - if you need to hire a pro, there are a few on here who should be able to give you an idea.

mmm I suppose thats the crux- I think its news worthy - but of course some may not! Im hoping some press might come. We may have a famous international footballer coming, but this will not be confirmed to last minute so this makes it difficult I suppose to lure any interested press in advance! Therefore Im thinking the possible need to organise my own photograhper!

Why don't you ring some local newspapers?

    Network with your people: https://www.builtinireland.ie/

Call local papers to see if they want to come along and photograph it, remember though you will have to pay per print if you want any of the pictures. It might be an idea to hire an event photographer also just in case. Feel free to pm me if you want info on this.

Will there be any famous or well known Irish or foreign personalities present ?

What is the "Official Launch" of ?

my advice would be to draft up a press release and sent it to the news desks and/or the relevant correspondents, if they are interested they will send someone (offer of free food and drink also somehow manages to get an interest)....or send 2 tickets to said "event".

Also just to note: what you are looking for is a PR Photographer !! - one who can send/file from on-site (not all PR Photographers have this capability).

As regards cost - you get what you pay for, someone who charges a couple of hundred an hour will more than likely have connections/contacts* - thus increasing the chance of getting images printed, however....Friday going into Sat ... plenty of the papers would not be interested.

you could call a few PR agencies and ask if they have any recommendations for photographers.

    * = some PR Photographers do not have personal contact with newspaper staff and still charge a couple of hundred per hour.

As another person has said - contact some of the local papers and tell them of the event (also, try local radio) ........ .... I work as a press photographer (and have been working as one for over 10years)

I think it depends heavily on how important your event is, no?

What PCPhoto is saying about PR photographers being able to send photos on the spot, may not be at all relevant if it's something that's only a local issue/event.

For example, in Drogheda, there's two local newspapers, and both are weekly. So it wouldn't matter if the photos weren't sent on the day, or the next day, so long as they were in on time for the deadline before the next issue goes to print. I think being able to send things off there and then is only beneficial if you reckon the bigger papers like the Sun or such are gonna be printing your event (and if you think big papers like that are going to care, then chances are you'll get local papers covering your event for free, anyway).

That said, neither type of photographer will hand you over free photographs, and usually charge a decent price for them (and in my experience, most are only hanging around for the most important bit of the event, then they're gone). If you want your whole event documented, and you want photographs of it, then i think you'd be best to hire a photographer to cover it for you.

That said, PCPhoto'd know the business better than most here, myself included, so maybe I'm just talking shite and don't realise it. I'm sure he'll correct me where I'm wrong.

The main advantage of having your own photographer at an event like this is they will photograph it from the clients point of view and can supply images directly to them too. I usually work on an hourly rate on these jobs but never promise that pictures will be published

    Hi-
Thanks for all the tips. So it is the official launch of "myoreflex" which is a Physiotherapy, Myoreflex Therapy and Naturopathy practice based in Greystones. Its newsworthy definitely locally as its a new business opening in the area, German therapist moving with his family-Irish wife to Ireland to set up business. It is the only practice in Ireland to offer Myoreflex Therapy - which is becoming increasingly popular in Europe- with approx. 2-300 practices in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria etc offering it. Also the owner of the practice still works closely with top athletes from clubs such as Real Madrid as well as some high profile irish... With regards famous personalities - yes there might be one or two but not confirmed.
So we have and are currently contacting local and national press with a press release and yes we will have lovely finger food wild smoked salmon!!! & beverages available.
So I suppose its fingers crossed - we would be happy if a local photographer came out and then we can purchase any worthy photos he/she would take. We will also take our own and see what comes out of them....

myoreflex doesn't even have a wikipedia entry. it's not too often that wikipedia is stumped like that.

if it was a business launch which would create jobs in the area, you'd have more chance of coverage, but it sounds like a single person operation?

The mention of "Naturopathy" does ring the usual alarm bells though.

The weird thing is that there doesn't seem to be ANY information online except for a plethora of official sounding websites, some of which make the usual astonishing claims, like this one (first one on my google results if I search for "myoreflex therapy", YMMV) ... http://www.movingmyo.com/myo.html

which claims "MRT is a holistic pressure point therapy targeting the body’s entire muscle system along so-called muscle chains and meridians in kinematic and functional interactions."

and that it can be used to treat ... ahem ...
    What MRT treats:
    • Muscular-skeletal dysfunctions including (but not limited to):
    • Arthritis,
    • Whiplash injuries, chronic back pain
    • Herniated vertebral disk
    • Headaches, migraines, muscle tension and -pain
    • Tendonitis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
    • Frozen shoulder, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
    • Tennis/golfer elbow
    • Sciatica
    • Spinal stenosis
    • Scoliosis
    • Repetitive stress injuries
    • Pelvic floor problems

    Neuro-muscular malfunctions, including:
    • ALS
    • Parkinson
    Multiple sclerosis
    • Muscular Dystrophy

In connection with psychotherapy, Myo-Reflex is also used to support treatment of psychological disorders, including:
    • Post Traumatic Stress
    • Burn-Out Syndrome
    • Psychological-Trauma

    Other Disorders
    • Fibromyalgie
    Cancer
    • Auto-immune (Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis)
    • ADD, ADHD
    Autism
    • Trigeminal neuralgia

After you have seen a specialist and ruled out purely organic problems, MRT can be used to treat the following problems (via influencing the organ musculature and using specific acupuncture points):
    • Asthma
    • Chronic bronchitis
    • Visual disturbances
    • High Blood Pressure
    • Heart palpitations with benign cardiac arrhythmias
    • Heartburn
    • Stomach irritation
    • Intestinal problems (constipation)
    • Infertility....

    (emphasis mine)

Anyhow, little off topic here ...

Mostly seems to be a list of things that can be treated with physiotherapy techniques - this particular method sounds an awful lot like pressure-point manipulation which is commonly practiced throughout the world, just without a fancy name. Its a basic form of tension relief that mostly works on tight muscles (particularly back and neck pain). The things listed are usually have some fine print attached (for example, "relief for symptoms of" followed by the entries like cancer and MS), but most competent physios would provide treatment for pretty much everything listed (although for the more extreme ones like MS, the physio is simply for relief of symptoms and not treatment for the illness/disease itself).
