My daughter is in the Gaelteacht in Carraroe and we're going to visit next weekend and will be taking her and her 2 friends out for the day. Can anyone suggest a place to go and eat and keep them entertained for the day, or tell me where the nearest big town is. We will be staying in Maam Cross and driving to see her on the Sunday.
    Any suggestions ?

If its a nice day you should head for one of the many beaches in An Cheathrú Rua - the most popular being Trá an Doilin, lovely coral beach or Trá na Reilige (graveyard beach) - bring a packed lunch from one of the local shops and sit back on the beach for a few hours. You could also head over to An Spideal and have lunch in Builin Blasta in the craft village and mull about the shops here http://ceardlann.com/ and cross the road to the beach for a swim. If the weather is not good the beachs will be ruled out - You can also get lunch in An Chistin Bar in An Cheathrú Rua. Hope some of that helps - Bain sult as an Cheathrú Rua!!

Nearest big town is Clifden or Galway, both about an hour from Carroroe.

Try Briget's Garden. It's less than 50kms from Carraroe.

In Clifden you are close to the Connemara National Park.

Ye could also try going to the Aran Islands on boat from Rosaveel (Ros a Mhíl) or by plane from Aerfort na Minna. It's likely however that they will go there at some time with the school if she is there in an Irish college.

The ceardlann place mentioned previously is a good idea also.
