Looking at the age of the Roscommon panel the biggest worry would be holding onto these lads as most will be finishing college now & might be looking at emigration if work doesn't come about.

Hard luck to Roscommon on Saturday was a good effort for 60mins but they will need to playing the like's of Tyrone,Mayo,Cork regularly in order to progress.

There's a great sense of unity about the core of this Roscommon team so most of the 2006 minors should stick around, Connor Devaney returned from America after spending some time aboard and he was welcomed back onto the panel.

With all due respect- and as a Mayoman myself, you need to move the expectations outside of Connaught.

This isnt a slight against either Mayo or Roscommon, but if you want to build on experience you don't want to be playing the same opposition time and time again. What you don't want is for this Roscommon team to become cannon fodder for the more experienced teams to be racking up scores against either.

This is where I think another year will benefit this team greatly - the seem to be outstanding for 55-60 minutes but then don't continue. It's no longer a Minor game and they unfortunately don't have an older bench to draw the experience from to take them the rest of the way.
This will come with time, and to be fair to Fergal O'Donnell, he's done an outstanding job so far- they need to stick with him all the way.

The League is useful in this respect, but Roscommon should be looking to play all comers and not just the neighbours. They need to be aiming for Promotion to the top divisions, and they're more than capable.

That said - I welcome the next meeting of Mayo and Roscommon all the same....

As will Roscommon, who still have the monkey of beating Mayo for the first time in a decade to drive them on even further.

Things are looking up for Connacht's future in general now, Galway can surely only go upwards, Roscommon full of potential and Mayo offering a rebuttal to the maligning of Connacht football with their comprehensive dismantling of the best team in the country over the last two years. Sligo, I don't know where they fit in now with them burning out this year after two good and progressive years previously under Kevin Walsh.

Long may that monkey stay where he is!.
All joking aside - I'm hoping today wasnt a flash in the pan, and that the games in Connaught being as close as they were is only a show of how close the teams are there, rather than the perceived "weakness" in the province, as some commentators devise it to be.
