Conscience... don't even know if I spelled it right there. I mean like somebody's 'guilty conscience' anyway.

It annoys me when people don't knownthe correct there, their or they're too. And when people do 's instead of ies for example: body's and bodies.

conscious. Took me several gos and I'm still not sure. Peoples attempts at 'there/their/they're' drives me nuts too

Speaking of other people's misspellings lose/loose drives me nuts. It's one of those things that makes me nearly snap my keyboard in half.

    RESTAURANT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 854 ✭✭✭Caraville

    As mentioned already, restaurant.

Also: guarantee (always mix up the a and u)

The standard of spelling nowadays is shockingly bad though- whatever about teenagers, the state of some of the stuff I see written by adults on facebook or in comments on web pages is actually frightening. Fair enough if people have dyslexia or some other learning disability, but most of these people must be just plain thick.

Conscience and conscious are two separate words with different meanings.

and that reminds me, predictive text on the phone spells "colour" as "color", when you try to spell colour, it doesnt recognise the word!

Yankee dictionary setting. Change it to what's probably listed as "UK English"

I'm an avid reader and buy a lot of books online, a lot of the books tend to have the American spelling of words. Over the years I gotten so used to it that sometimes I spell things the American way without realising it.
