    Sounds like a plan...

On another note, I got my tntsat card in the post yesterday.
Never had a card before, so no real idea on what had to be done, but after a few hours, got oscam working, TF1 cleared, and all channels (I think, it was late) including HD cleared as well.biggrin.gif

Had to do a lot of searching, edited a few files a number of times, lots of stop/start oscam, looking at log output, and have no real idea how this thing hang together, but it worked for at least an hour early this morning.

Question for any experienced users out there - besides channels clearing, do I need to be looking at other things?
Didn't realise there was a seperate webif, so after finding it and having a brief look at it, is there anything I should be looking at specifically?

I will be reading more on the oscam sites, but it seems a lot of info is out of date in relation to tntsat following the recent changes from via3 to via5.

Also, when looking for 'the latest version' of oscam (one thing I had to do to get things working), how 'new' should you go?
Should you take a build from oscam site itself, or should you look for 1 thats packaged for your image?

Last question, is it a good/bad idea to be talking about this stuff openly on this forum?

Any practical advice would be appreciated.

    WW

A question about this. Is HD on all cards?

A friend of mine wants to get one but says he would rather get it with a set top box (something cheap like this) and then once it is working on the TNTSat box move it to another receiver with HD and recording capabilities.

    Would that work?

  • Registered Users Posts: 619 ✭✭✭white_westie

    Don't know to be honest.
There is no option to select hd when ordering, so I assume its not only dependent on the card. If you put the card in an official tntsat hd receiver, it will clear the channels.

In configuring oscam, I had to find a certain 3 keys (eventually worked out it was 1 of my initial problems), so not sure if they have anything to with clearing hd or not, and/or is it down the magic in oscam itself!

Another thing, once the card is activated, I don't know if it needs some form of ongoing update/check to keep it going for the 4yr period, so if you remove it from the tntsat receiver will it stop working after a short while?
I'm hoping that oscam can look after that for me.

I see posts referring to entitlements and auto-update - I'm not sure what relevance they have to this card/setup.

Anyone know if you have to be concerned about entitlements being updated for this tntsat via5 card? (similiar to what is being discussed in the Cyfra+ 0068 thread?

Is there any likelihood of them checking such things at a later date, and killing cards where things don't match up properly?

I'd doubt it though, but you never know.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, I have a thread running with this one relating to English & French setup with two sats and that is here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=76818765.

We got the french box sent over by the wife's family and the sat is receiving the signal alright but not sure if we have to register the card.

We have the Viaccess Stratos which is here - http://www.elap.fr/gb/?r=4&f=1&c=2&p=3&obj=p_satrecrky and there is a card inside it but after about 3 hours, its still says No Card inserted for all of the channels even though TF1 is playing away in the top right corner.
Also, all the radio channels are there.

Do I need to do something else?

    Thanks
    irish

try putting card in other way up

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,824 ✭✭✭irishproduce

Will try that tonight and see, will also follow up and let ye know how I get on.
Even after leaving it running all night, a lot of the channels in the EPG are saying "No Card Inserted" instead of showing the televsion listings.

Does anyone know if we have to register the card?
Wife is saying no, from her understanding of the booklet (my french aint good enough to read it all correctly).
All the channels are there and we can watch them but when I go into the menu to see the channels and guide etc, most of the channels are saying No Card Inserted even though when I hit OK on the remote, the channel opens fine.
Suppose it is just the fact that I can't see the guide in the EPG now that is bothering me.

    Thanks for any advice.
    irish

Sounds like a good trick. Do you need an original card in order to order a replacement or can I just order one without having an original? A translation of their webpage states "TNTSAT your card will expire or has expired? "

I know, dragging up old threads is bold  but just ordered one of these cards for the craic, order seems to have gone through fine, got the following (translated) confirmation:
Congratulations! You just renew your TNTSAT card.
A confirmation email has been sent to you with your order summary.
Your card will arrive within 7 business days to the address you provided.

To thank you for your loyalty, you will receive your new card with a special offer: The 5 channel CANAL + to discover on your TV for 4 days for free and without obligation!

So, 4 days of free CANAL+ too! Let's see how long it takes to get here...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,756 ✭✭✭gtg60

    Cheers to the OP! :D

Got mine this morning, might wait until closer to the weekend to activate it so I have the Canal+ 4 day trial over the weekend.

Going to activate it in OScam, guessing it'll be straightforward enough but I'd appreciate a PM from someone who's used OScam to activate it.

As stated 2 posts back, when I ordered my TNTSAT card they said I would receive 4 days of Canal+ too as a bonus (or enticer!).

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,894 ✭✭✭kooga

apologies, I thought there was a free weekend for tntsat users

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,756 ✭✭✭gtg60

Yeah, no bother, was slowing translating the letter that came with the card last night and it turns out that you can activate the free 4 days of CANAL+ separately via a website but that you must do it within 10 days of receiving your new TNTSAT card.
    Here's the address FYI:

It's here: https://secure.tntsat.tv/deja-equipe-tnt-sat/renouveler-carte-tnt-sat.htm that you can get a TNTSAT card. You will see that they ask for your address which, I assume, must be in France. There is an "alternative address" facility in addition to the "main" name and address. So forgive my stupidity, how do you get the card mailed to an address in Ireland?

Thanks Kooga. That's a novel approach; I'll try it and see what happens. I'll then buy a decoder. When I get the card(!), I'll post here. BTW: here http://www.satexpat.com/pays/france/tntsat-fransat/ is a good link for the difference between the TNTSAT satellite footprint coverage versus FRANSAT footprint coverage.

why are you buying a card and a decoder separately? i got my brother to buy me one last year in carrefour shop in france hd receiver with card €149.

re set up tnt sat is on astra 19.2 and i can get that satellite on a sky 60cm dish in cork, fransat is on atlantic bird and you will need an 80cm dish

Thanks Kooga. Sadly, I don't have any close relations in France and only visit on an occasional basis. So when I get the card, I will suss out decoder availability (eg. Amazon France here: http://www.amazon.fr/Humax-TN5000HD-D%C3%A9codeur-Satellite-HDMI/dp/B004GIMS0W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383561913&sr=8-1&keywords=humax+tntsat )

BTW: do you use professional Satellite detectors like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007HHF3GU/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0WQA7TYQGD10ZD70MYPC&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=429454147&pf_rd_i=468294 or the cheap and cheerful like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Konig-Satfinder-Satellite-Installation-Tool/dp/B000M4FRSE/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1383562166&sr=1-2&keywords=satellite+meter . The former tells you the satellite; the latter only lets you know that there is a satellite detected but not which one.

You don't need to buy those tools.

    Just use:

    http://www.dishpointer.com/

This should be easy for you as you are only searching for one satellite.

Thanks kooga and iba. Card arrived on Friday. Now I need to get the decoder (bit like sewing a shirt on to a button!). Set up an 80cm dish with a quatro LNB for 28.2E and a quad LNB for 19E. I used dispointer on my android together with a cheap detector and a generic decoder/portable TV in view to correctly align the dish and the LNBs. Got a good signal on both although some stations are "missing" or are pixelated and so needs more attention to sensitivity. Perhaps LNB skew needs attention. Have to wait a couple of weeks before looking at it again.

Im wondering the reason you brought a card and no decoder? What are the reasons behind this? It just seems a bit pointless? Sorry to sound negative, but i just don't understand the reasoning.

It's really very logical (at least to me). I don't have any relations in France and was not sure if I could get a card posted to an Irish address. So, for the sake of 15€, I ordered one and got it within a few days. Now that I have the card, I can buy a decoder such as a Humax TN5000HD here: http://www.amazon.fr/Humax-TN5000HD-D%C3%A9codeur-Satellite-HDMI/dp/B004GIMS0W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384090004&sr=8-1&keywords=humax+tnt
