Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Parthenaise Cattle

    hey folks,
was wondering if anyone had any experience, knowledge or feedback to give on Parthenaise cattle. Just looking at a couple of bull options for next spring.
We have a half to 3/4 bred Saler suckler herd and wanted to cross back to another breed.
    Delighted with Saler calves:
    - Reasonably docile
    - Only used calving jack on the odd heifer
    - Great to get up and suck after calving (very hardy)

Would be great to know if Parthenaise bulls are generally easy calving and good to suck?

    thanks folks

we've a salers bull atm. He is a 5star accross all traits for salers but think we'd better change him so we can hold onto replacements. trying to build the herd here at the moment and it seems a cheaper route.
have put some SI into 4 hiefers, SEV and DRU. bit riskly i know but cant help thinking that SAxSI would be an ideal sucker dam and may as well try making use of their wide pelvis. 2 are calving down in nov. so ask me then how they get on and look.

    Have the salers milk?
The parthenaise isnt too bad for milk but wouldnt improve milk from cows that are lacking it.

They have great great fertility and generaly very good temprement.
They will add muscle as they are a double muscled.

in general they are an easy calving breed and especially coming out of saler cows you should have no problems on that front

If your happy with the saler cow them why do you want to cross them??
going fully down the saler route would provide a simple replacement policy...

personally if i was to cross them it would be either a lim or a sim for females and i would cross the rest to a charo for selling
