Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

IMT 14.2 up to the 7th, which is quite a bit cooler than would be expected for the first week of August.

Summary for first seven days ... as tony said, IMT on 14.2 which is 0.5 below whatever normals are being used over at the ag report. The CET for the same period has been running around 17.5 which is an unusually large gradient between the two statistics, usually it's more like 1 to 1.5 deg in the summer and tends to flatten out to near zero on average in other seasons (often a bit milder in Ireland in winter).

Rainfall averaged 70% of normal for the stations used in the summary, and sunshine was quite low at 58% (Cork was down around 20%). I gather from the stats that 7-8 hours of sunshine a day is normal at this time of year.

This continues the trend established in July of having all three measures below normal (cool, dry, cloudy) although when it's cool and cloudy the below normal rainfall can seem near normal as the ground requires less of a soaking to maintain the water table.

Although I'm leaving soon for about three weeks of away time and such, I think my one or two days between segments of this roaming fall conveniently around the 15th and the 22nd so I may be able to pop in and update the weekly segments even if I'm otherwise out of the loop. Should be back in time to post a September forecast thread anyway.

Summary for first two weeks: (not guaranteed to be entirely factually accurate :P ), just in case M.T. is enjoying his holiday too much to stop by . . .

IMT 14.7 so far, which is 0.54 above normal for the first two weeks.

Rainfall averaged 112% of normal for the stations used in the summary (knock airport didnt update as a % of average so it's not exact) bringing it to 91% for the first two weeks.

Sunshine was quite low again at 64%, making it 61% for the first two weeks.

Thanks tony, I checked here first ... and to keep my holiday theme alive I have not been looking at weather or forecasts unless it is related to my holiday plans. We had a nice time in the nearby mountains (family reunion) for the past week and now it's on to the desert southwest and hopefully some great scenery, storm photography and relaxation. Hot down there of course but not quite as hot in higher elevations where we plan to be (southern Utah). Flying down later, back in a week. Thanks SC, I see you are posting (didn't peek, honest).

If we save our pennies perhaps next year's holiday will be Ireland (mass exodus to Med).

IMT of 13.1 for the past week, bringing it to 14.2 for the month so far.

Rainfall 63% for the week bringing it to 82% for the month so far.

Sunshine 117% for the week, making an average of 80% for the month to now.

Min i think of 3.7 recorded at mullingar (or was it 3.9?) no idea of the max!

Edit: Min is 3.9 in Mullingar on the 17th.

Does phoenix park count for the max?

If so, 4th was 23.6 for the max.

If not i think it was oak park at 22.5 on the same day.

Thanks everyone for posting the updates. Just back from holiday (have some storm and scenery pix for posting later), will need a day or two to get up to speed as I really did manage to ignore all weather away from Nevada and Utah for the past week. Yesterday as we killed off the day between surrendering the car and boarding the plane for home, it was a rather toasty 43 C (110 F) in Las Vegas NV which set a new daily record for them. Spent most of the day in A/C inside but brief excursions outside were met with blast furnace type heat in the sun. I find that if you're outside in the shade though it actually feels a lot cooler than 43 C more like 35 C, must be the very low humidity. The morning "lows" in that kind of heat are about 28 C and so it's a very pleasant summer day on the way to breakfast.

About the question of what counts as highest temperature, I had this issue come up before with Phoenix Park and decided that I would go with the value listed in the met.ie Monthly Summary, whatever they decide, we use. That gives them a chance to do quality control and assess the values. Last winter they used Phoenix Park in one case and ignored it in another case, so I just don't know yet.

As you say, there could be a slightly higher max yet anyway. Looks like it has been cool and dry there for most of the past ten days.

In what has been a very cool Summer it looks like the max of 22.5c for August will be the final disputed figure so MT you better check with Met Eireann

15 to 18 or 19c the highest temperatures promised until Sept 1st now
