Where do the individual sections of track get welded into the longer sections? Portlaoise?

082 hauling stored 22014 from Inchicore to Laois Train Care Depot
how many ICRS are stored? i thought the reformations would mean no more storage of these trains?

Correct. This is the last one, has been at Inchicore getting work done. Will be reformed to 4ICR at some stage as well with 22008 going from 4ICR to 3ICR.

    Evening all,

One of the website contributors, KZG68 was at Connolly this afternoon to see (8)208 arriving from Inchicore with the RPSI’s 461 and BR Van 3185. 461 will be in action this weekend with a railtour to Mullingar.

Later on in the afternoon I stopped off at Carn for the 1700 Heuston – Cork (234) and 1705 Heuston – Tralee (22037). Pictures begin at http://smu.gs/1j8a8yz

bit of a question but what engines did the gen vans used for the mark ii and cravens stock use would anyone know?

    Evening all,

What started out as a minor detour on the way home from work, turned out to be a cross country trek across the Irish Midlands to the west side of the River Shannon at Athlone. All to capture 077 hard at work on the delayed 1330 North Wall - Ballina IWT Liner.

Extending he Limerick service to Heuston concludes bad planning and quiet possible increasing costs to IE.

    4 car 22 and 2 car 28 + the 28 returning back empty.

Surly a Mark 4 should of being scheduled in place on the 09.00 and 12.20 out of Cork. Would be surprised if costs were still higher than the above operation.

Only the three Mark 4 sets are in operational service - the other sets are now in storage, and are therefore not available for immediate use, and as a result there are no Mark 4 sets available to cover the 09:00 from Heuston and 12:20 return.

    Presumably this was a one-off.

Fully understand this however they had a set available to use, they could then of replaced one of the other services with 22000's. Clearly online bookings were high and a little forward thinking and better capacity management should of being shown.

As for the other sets in storage, surly they are perfectly fine and should be available for use with little work. It's not as if online booking filled up earlier that day. Costs are costs and they are increased and this is common during the summer months and there is very few excuses for the poor handling of it.

ixflyer has hit the nail on the head. With only 3 MKIV sets it means only certain Cork services can be covered by them.

Agree with it or not, thats the situation you have now. The fleet is very tightly diagrammed on Fridays, more so than ever, with very little room to increase train sizes over and above the several services that are already increased in size on a Friday.

Really? Three MKIV sets started their day today on the following services:
    0700 Heuston - Cork
    0700 Cork - Heuston
    0920 Cork - Heuston

Hence no MKIV set in Heuston to work the 0900 Heuston - Cork.

The 06.00 was scheduled as a Mark 4 recently so they must of moved it back to the 09.20 again.

Still IE have left themselves open to cost issues while trying to make savings. I can't wait to see how the 23rd May is handled across the network by all accounts it will be a disaster with the ID concerts.

Re the MK4's, is there not more than 3 sets in service? On Fridays I'm sure extra services such as the 13:00 to Cork is MK4 operated?

    I think aswell I have seen sets 3,6,7 & 8 around.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,043 ✭✭✭The_Wanderer

Only three sets in service daily. On Friday the 1300 is MKIV. This means the 1900 is 7ICR.

There are only three sets out and about - like most routes the operating pattern changes at weekends from Monday-Thursday to meet the different demand levels.
