After its tour of East Cork on Tuesday, the Sperry returned to Portlaoise from Mallow today. A 93 mile trip at 30 mph. It arrived into Portlaoise during lunchtime and I popped down to Clonkeen to photograph it and 22017 on the 1300 Heuston - Cork.

I didn't even know that they were repainting the 29s. Shows how out of touch I've been lately!

The 29s repaint job is really very good. Delighted to see dark green back on the network.

If you switch back and forth between this and original livery, you can clearly see what a massive improvement the new all dark green is. Actually looks like a train now and not a long bus.

I don't usually care too much about liveries, but that is extremely good looking.

As always great photo's Wanderer, I have admire your stamina for gricing. Quick question, is the dining car on British trains reserved for first class passengers or could anyone use it?

the 60s are very underrated locos IMO, fantastic machines, same with the 58s as well but sadly i doubt a 58 will ever be in traffic again

ticking a box on a form does not make you of a religion.

First Great Western operates the last remaining restaurant car as such, on 3 return workings between Plymouth and Paddington, Monday-Friday:

    Plymouth/Paddington: 06:55 (Breakfast), 12:01 and 12:55 (Lunch)
    Paddington/Plymouth: 12:06 (Lunch), 18:03 and 19:03 (Dinner)

Anyone can avail of them, but priority is given to first class ticket holders.

    More information is here:
    http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/Your-journey/On-board/Pullman

On selected other services FGW have a travelling chef with a buffet service, again available to everyone.
    http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/Your-journey/On-board/First-Great-Western-Food-and-Drink/Travelling-Chef

Arriva Trains Wales offer a complimentary restaurant service for first class ticket holders on the 05:33 Holyhead/Cardiff and 17:16 Cardiff/Holyhead.

    More details here:
    http://www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/PremierService/

Other than that, East Coast, Virgin Trains and Cross Country offer complimentary food and drink to first class passengers all day, while East Midlands Trains offer complimentary cooked breakfasts on certain London bound trains in first class, and light breakfasts on other trains, and then offer cooked food for purchase during the day.
