Any idea what caused it fail? Would the 071's fail often? They're an amazing loco considering their age. They must be coming up on 40 now, was it 1977 when they were floated into Dublin bay.

They can fail for lots of reasons, defective head lights can cause a loco to be declared a failure, failed water pumps, stuck reverser, blown turbo, dead batteries etc. Loads of things that can go wrong.

Around half the fleet are due a major overhaul anyway and 073 is high up on that list.

    Evening all,

As alluded to in yesterday's update, the second part of the pictures are now online and feature the latest progress of the LUAS Cross City construction from Broombridge to St. Stephen's Green.

Great progress has been made in the City Centre over the last few months with track laying now underway in most areas. The work in O'Connell Street won't commence until later in the year after the 1916 Easter Rising commemorations have taken place.

The ICR ends don't actually look to bad, is there any reason why they couldn't of gone bigger and close the gap more or would it just cause a lot of bother for maintenance.

Wanderer, Very interesting to see work in cutting from Broombridge to Broadstone. I presume track there will laid be on concrete sleepers, any sign yet of sleepers being stockpiled in locality ?

I've no idea! But I can see that bottom bar getting a fair battering from objects. It should be easy to replace (in theory).
