8209 must be welded to the Mk4s. It's yet to work an Enterprise refurb set.

It is not yet cleared for the Enterprise, AFAIK the MMI testing hasn't been completed.

Saturday 2nd April proved to be an interesting day with the Limerick - Ballybrophy service being extended to Portlaoise as the 8ICR's on the Cork services are no longer permitted to call at Ballybrophy.
Ballast Cleaning work was also being carried out near Cherryville Jct. with 221 & 086 top & tailing the HOBS train from Heuston Guinness Yard to the work site on Saturday evening.

    Evening folks,

Two updates to the website today.

The main update features the RPSI "Dublin Riveria" Specials from Connolly to Greystones. After recent maintenance work carried out at Connolly Locomotive Shed, 461 was in what can only be described as flying form. The run back from Greystones to Connolly on the 1st trip was a great performance from both locomotive and crew on the footplate.

Once again a massive thanks to all the RPSI volunteers and Iarnrod Eireann Staff for making days out like this possible.

The 2nd update features the general odds and sods around the Dublin area today, plus a very early morning bus move from Laois to Dublin due to the lack of early trains into Heuston on a Sunday (first arrival being 1042).
    Locations visited today include:
    - Drumcondra to photograph the 0725 Athlone - North Wall IWT Liner with 083. This liner left Ballina on Saturday afternoon and was stabled overnight at Athlone.
    - Connolly. Last week of 22000 Class operation to Belfast. Plus the 3rd refurbished Enterprise set (9003) was photographed.
    - Grand Canal Dock to view the ongoing remodelling works to allow platform 2 to become a terminating platform.
    - Heuston.
    - Inchicore which includes (8)208 coupled to a Shale Wagon.

2700 are coming back or at least 50% of them to start with. I also think 225 is joining 216.

210 is in a bad way, sitting on scrap bogies too. No sign of 230 where ever they have that hidden away.

Where did this rumour start I wonder?

Second Belmond 201 has not yet been assigned, but it could be 225. Lets get 216 going first.

I can't see the 2700s coming back. For a start, all the work that will be required to get them running again after being in storage for so long. They need to get in spare parts as they are outside the common 26/2800 fleet, maintenance staff will need refresher training and then drivers will need training to re qualify to drive them again.

There would be less work involved in getting 225 back in action than one 2700 set.

230 was last in the old wagon shop having it's TPWS/AWS equipment removed for fitting into 216.

Indeed 210 is on scrap bogies, whilst 202 is on part refurbished bogies, perhaps that is the second Belmond 201 ;)

Actually all but one of the 2700 sets are in working order, just 2703/2704 requires electrical work to be useable again.

Some have even been started up and moved under their own power from time to time within the depot and so were the sets which went to Cork. 2753 for example has been moved from the far side of where the DARTs are stored to outside the carriage shop in recent enough times.

The biggest problem with returning the 2700s to service now is the cost of fitting the DRA. IE still has a substantial reserve of 2700 spare parts and driver/maintenance re-training would not take too long.

Werre they not given an extra30 million to bring units into service as they are needed to meet demwnd or will be. It was not for DART btw.

Isn't stock needed for the Kildare-GCD services?

Thought that would go to the freed up ICR sets with the 5ICR no longer needed to cover the Enterprise and the fact more Mk4 sets are coming back online.

No more Mk4 sets, they will not run them on 05.50 or 06.15 from Cork as it will require an increase in service and possible increased times. Problem is peak hours, returning more Mark IV will not fill peak hour services so pointless.

In theory they should be able to find sets with new schedules in place and with that 5 coach and The_Wanderer photo's said another only returned to service after been out since last year. Sure all they will need is two 4 coach sets at peal hours and anyway the net gain in services will not be two per hour but take into account adjustments to existing services such as the morning departures ex Newbridge. One or two questionable services operating at peak hours which have more empty seats than passengers and shouldn't have.

Some early morning action this morning with a 0545 Athlone - North Wall IWT Liner and De-Dietrich set 9002 + loco 206 going 0730 Inchicore - Connolly prior to taking over the 5ICR diagram on the Belfast route from tomorrow.

they won't return more for now, or they won't return them at all and they will join the rest of the stuff in the inchicore scrap yard?

ticking a box on a form does not make you of a religion.

For now, I don't work for IE but see no reasons why more would be needed unless there is significant pick up in off peak demand. With 5 in service they can run extra middle of the day runs if needed. Not sure if they even ever operated more than 6 full time anyway. You need one or two spare sets.

Think they did run 7 at the height of the boom with one set kept as a maintenance spare and a surplus Mk3 set kept as backup. That was always the plan anyway.

    Indeed they did:
    1 - 05.15, 09.00, 12.30, 16.00, 19.30
    2 - 06.30, 10.00, 13.30, 17.00, 20.20
    3 - 07.30, 11.00, 14.30, 18.00
    4 - 09.30, 13.00, 16.30, 20.00
    5 - 07.00, 10.30, 14.00, 17.30, 21.00
    6 - 08.00, 11.30, 15.00, 18.30
    7 - 12.00, 15.20, 19.00

I could see partial return of a sixth set medium term but unlikely to see seventh.

Additional MKIV may not be required on the Cork line but additional capacity could be freed up if the spare sets were used for Killarney, Limerick or even Port Laoise services
