    Hi folks,

I'm thinking about starting this course in September, delivered online from IT Sligo: http://odl.itsligo.ie/science/b-sc-in-environmental-management/

Anyone here done this course or similar? Any use for the real world, ie. employment? I see it as a course to add to my marketing qualifications, so I may have the option of working in sales and marketing afterwards, in a relevant area.

    Thanks for reading,

    Enda.

    Hi,

I'm studying Environmental Mgmt in DIT. I'd recommend the subject but only if its something you are actually interested in.

As regards employment there is a lot of consultancy work out there. The fields are varied you could end up being anything from a wind turbine consultant to an ecologist. A growth sector in the coming years imo.

    Thanks Gar,

I am interested alright, but I've no experience in this area, and I'm going straight into year 3  It will be a challenge, but a worthwhile one I think. Good to hear about the availability of consultancy work, that's the kind of approach that suits me, as I've been self-employed for years.

Do you have any suggested reading material, that might help me get focused?

I'm starting the course on the 15th of September.

    Cheers,

    Enda.

working in the trade ~10 years; ecology is the gig at the mo.
if you like environmental science, you could end up with a job you love and never have to work a day in your life again. just dont do it for the money; as with most science gig its fairly crap!

    Hi,
Sorry for the lateness of the reply.

Reading material General: When a Billion Chinese Jump, Johnathon Watts. - Very good book, i'd say start off with this one. It will give you a real good idea as to why this kind of research and education is needed. An easy reader for anyone starting out in the area.

More specialised: Reading the Irish Landscape Mitchell, F. and Ryan M. Town House 2001 3,

Environmental Science, earth as a living planet Botkin, DB Wiley 2003

These two will be harder to find so I have included publishers and date.
