I was told by a friend that the house & a portion
of land surrounding the site are to be sold.
Apparently the OPW can't afford to have another
house on their books but yet thay can afford to
    spend it on this! http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0730/kenmare.html

It would be terrible if we lost this beautiful house
& some of the gardens to a third party!

If only we had some real clout in the Dail.

Mt Congreve will cost far more than 7 million. Maybe Lord Waterford or the Duke of Devonshire might fancy a twin estate!

As far as i know, the state has to keep the estate for twenty five years under the agreement in place, since Ambrose Congreve passed away.

Nothing was signed prior to Mr Congreves death so there
is nothing in place to safeguard it!

ah there is ok......thats why Mr Congreve had to leave for a week each month and went to London etc....part of the over all deal with the state.

You can read as much as ye want in to the small print

& analyse it for all it's worth but the fact still remains

that it's to be sold. Just wondering if many people here

    have been on the estate?

Thought I saw something on the paper to the effect that the final signing had not taken place.

I have been round the gardens and they are magnificent. If it is just the house for sale there is some garden around it that would not make a huge difference if it were not included in the future public area - some that is already private. There is still a lot of garden to walk through, it takes about 2 hours or so with a guide.
