Biggest load of nonsense I read on here today was that.

well you keep believing that and that the tooth fairy is real, but dont be crying into your cup of tea next year when the country is laughing at us again after another 20 or 30 point trashing, its going to be the same group of players again except some of them will be out foreign next year so well be even worse,

can this buck not be banned at this stage? never has anything constructive to add, just a load of useless drivel he concocts.

Those same group of players were good enough to reach All-Ireland under 21 finals beaten only by Dublin who have 6-8 of their under 21s at the time currently starting in the all conquering senior sides.

Those same group of players were good enough to beat Galway in Galway last year by 9 points then draw with Mayo and only conceding 4 points in the second half.

Those same group of players were good enough two years ago in the league to beat Kerry in Kerry, Donegal up in Donegal and score 4-25 away to Cork.

There clearly is an issue with Roscommon. Defensively they have been poorly organised for years and struggle massively playing two games in a week. Strength and conditioning is obviously something that needs major work in Roscommon but as far as natural talent goes Enda and Donie Smith, Ciaran and Diarmuid Murtagh, Cathal Compton, Ultan Harney, Ciaran Lennon, Brian Stack, Niall Daly, Niall Kilroy, Niall McInerney, Sean Mullooly are all fine footballers. A number of them are sigerson winners.

Nobody is laughing at Roscommon unless you are like 15 years old. We have one of the smallest populations in the country with no access to the players from one of our biggest towns. Mayo, Dublin, Tyrone and Kerry are basically professional sides at this stage while we struggle to get the players down from Dublin twice a week for training. We are light-years behind the big four in terms of preparation and Division 2 last year gave us no basis for championship preparation given there was no defending/tackling in any match and matches were played in first gear..this ended up hurting EVERYONE in the division.

if everyone took a step back for a few minutes and thought about the common denominator that brings Roscommon football to this crisis every few years, what would it be???

I have it clear in my head what I think it is! Replies should be no more than 2 words.

Yeah that what I was thinking. Would'nt it be nice to think that you could put in a completely new Board made up of personnel that haven't been part of this problem for the past 10-15 years. Say what you like but I believe that they are all contaminated in some shape or form. Time to say goodbye or we will still be talking about the same old problems in 10 years time and 3-4 more senior manager resignations.

A problem with the county board is that no one involved with it actually has any experience of running something of its size.Im sure this is an issue with a lot of the CBs around the country.

People getting elected to manage considerable amount of cash but would come from a totally different background.Chairman/treasurer of a club is a different world now to the county scene.

All the decent lads in leadership roles stay involved within clubs

    Roscommon have the players
We need a coach who understands the value of defending well - something we always did well as a county throughout most of our football history

So interviews are taking place this week and new manager going to be ratified at Monday night's co. board meeting. Its amazing how the County Board can get the local press to spin a bit of positivity about the vacancy and make it look like there are a number of candidates going to be interviewed. The Co. board have been seeking individuals for the past few weeks and obviously have got someone willing to take the job but they must first be interviewed. What a position to be in - going for interview knowing the job is yours!!

Are you getting that info from the Ian Cooney tweet? where he said hopefully next Monday. The same local journalist was so sure Mick Bohan was in the running that he ran an article about it

Aidan O'Rourke the name mentioned tonight for the Roscommon job. Jury would be out on him but would be better than Anthony Rainbow or Carew i would think.

Two good games today in the Hyde.

Kilglass had a deserved 3 point win over Clann Juniors. Kilglass just seemed to want it more in a pretty decent standard game for Junior football. Kilglass in particular had some lovely scores in the first half but it was very close throughout until they landed three in a row in the last few minutes. Lovely to see a small club win on the big day.

The Intermediate match ended up in a draw, which was probably a fair result. This was a very exciting match that featured multiple lead changes, two scorchers of goals and a real nail-biting finish. Fuerty were the better team in the first half, with Niall Kilroy scoring from everywhere - which makes it all the more puzzling that he looks so uncomfortable going for scores at county level. In fact the whole Oran full-back line were roasted and they looked in trouble. But young Darragh Walsh's high effort was fielded and carried back over the line by the Fuerty goalie. Not long after at the end of a really good move, Gearoid Keenan sent an absolute rocket to the roof of the net to give Oran a 3 point lead against the run of play. But Fuerty drew level quite easily before halftime.

The second half saw an improvement by Oran and it was very close the whole way. The highlight was another beauty of a goal from Fuerty's Gearoid Ennis, who was excellent throughout. Oran finally seemed to sort out their defensive problems and held the lead until injury time, when concerted Fuerty pressure finally resulted in the equaliser. However, there were two late efforts from Fuerty that just dropped barely dropped wide, so close that a group of Fuerty supporters near me were celebrating both before they had to be told they were wide!

Just with this game, it's very hard to call a winner for the replay (Saturday week was announced), but it would be worth going to see.

Any thoughts on what looks like the appointment of Aidan O'Rourke as senior manager tonight?

at least we'll have management in place, with two months to go before the season starts again
and he might have a clue on how to organise a defence

As good as we could have hoped for after Bohan and a few turned us down.

Bohan probably would have been better was anyone turned down highly rated? Mike McGurn will be on O'Rourkes backroom he has a very impressive CV.

Could only happen in Roscommon. The Co. Board have had a number of weeks to get their act together and put forward the name of a new manager for ratification last night. Once again they have showed their incompetence in dealing with people and brought half a management team to the meeting last night. The Delegates are just being played as fools and its all very much cloak and dagger stuff.

Its well time the GAA folk of Roscommon stood up to these Co. Board officials who constantly go about their business with contempt for the Roscommon GAA supporters. There is absolutely no transparency in what they do. Recent acts include not informing the delegates how much they have to pay for the House in Dublin; in the Club Rossie draw Report on their website they did not have the decency to tell the public how many tickets were sold or how much was raised. Surely that is the first thing people want to know when reading the report but God forbid they disclose any of this to the faithful supporters.

Its time our Local Press stood up for the supporters and start to ask the necessary questions!!

I actually think the ros job is an attractive position, don't really understand the hard sell/lack of interest. We are a division one side with youth and a decent club scene at senior level at least. The likes of Curran and Carew no thanks. Is there no ambitious young managers we can chase what about the Corofin manager or even David Casey up in middle Leitrim currently?

Tell me again about how the Roscommon job is an attractive one.

3 serious candidates have backed out of the process plus it seems like there was a number of other candidates who didn't want to even get involved in the process.

Nothing to do with attractiveness. Leitrim could appoint a manager with pedigree quickly and smoothly.

Roscommon county board are the most incompetent in the country by a distance.

It's a shambles but is anyone really surprised?
Our CB have shown time and time again they aren't fit for the job.

While it's a mess i think Roscommon might have dodged a bullet by not appointing Aidan O'Rourke. They can do much better IMO and wouldn't have to pay high traveling expenses but the question now is will the Roscommon county board now stumble onto a decent manager?

They might finally talk to a few local lads

how much time have they wasted chasing fellas that have no link to the county, the new manager should be getting ready for next year by now, the same bunch of Fools what wasted money on a bus instead of fixing the hyde,

He didnt have much of a managerial record, two poor seasons with Louth .

McGurn was supposed to be involved as S&C coach but looks like he was outsourcing that job before the appointment was even made.
Lacey gave up a similar role in Donegal due to work commitments cant see how that wouldn't be an issue with Ros job.
The CB once again show their ineptitude.

STATEMENT FROM THE CO. BOARD - smacks of a teacher giving out to pupils and trying to shift the blame. Whoever is responsible for putting this sh1t together should have a long hard look at themselves and consider their positions. We are now the laughing stock of the country.

Roscommon GAA wishes to clarify the situation around the appointment of a senior football team manager.
The process to select a manager commenced on September 10th when the committee was ratified by Roscommon Co Board and given the mandate to recruit a new Senior Team Manager.
The committee consisted of Chairman Seamus Sweeney. Secretary Brian Carroll and Treasurer of the county board David O’Connor and they were joined by Niall Carty former Roscommon Senior team captain and Ciarán Heneghan a former Roscommon senior footballer.

Following a five-week consultation period involving a number of candidates, this included the sole nominee from the clubs who withdrew from the process and a second Roscommon based candidate who also withdrew from the process having been offered an interview.
Interviews were conducted during week 6 and last night Monday, Oct 22 Roscommon GAA Management Committee expected to be in a position to put the name of the preferred candidate for consideration to the club delegates.
Prior to last night’s meeting, the chairman Seamus Sweeney received a phone call from the preferred candidate requesting a 24-hour deferral. This was conveyed to the county board delegates at last night’s meeting.
Our preferred candidate was Aidan O’Rourke. His team was to consist of Mike McGurn Strength and Conditioning, two Roscommon coach/selectors, and a head coach Karl Lacy.
The reason for the delay was because of unexpected doubts in relation to Karl Lacy’s availability as head coach.
Unfortunately, this morning the county chairman received a call from Aidan O’Rourke informing him that he was withdrawing from the process.
The Roscommon GAA Management committee is very disappointed at the turn of events but are fully committed to completing the selection process.
However, the committee is concerned at attempts that have been made to influence the outcome of the process over recent days.
The committee believes that these events have undermined the integrity of the process and potentially affected our ability to attract a new manager.
In addition, some of the public commentary on social media has been extremely unhelpful
