STATEMENT FROM THE CO. BOARD - smacks of a teacher giving out to pupils and trying to shift the blame. Whoever is responsible for putting this sh1t together should have a long hard look at themselves and consider their positions. We are now the laughing stock of the country.

Roscommon GAA wishes to clarify the situation around the appointment of a senior football team manager.
The process to select a manager commenced on September 10th when the committee was ratified by Roscommon Co Board and given the mandate to recruit a new Senior Team Manager.
The committee consisted of Chairman Seamus Sweeney. Secretary Brian Carroll and Treasurer of the county board David O’Connor and they were joined by Niall Carty former Roscommon Senior team captain and Ciarán Heneghan a former Roscommon senior footballer.

Following a five-week consultation period involving a number of candidates, this included the sole nominee from the clubs who withdrew from the process and a second Roscommon based candidate who also withdrew from the process having been offered an interview.
Interviews were conducted during week 6 and last night Monday, Oct 22 Roscommon GAA Management Committee expected to be in a position to put the name of the preferred candidate for consideration to the club delegates.
Prior to last night’s meeting, the chairman Seamus Sweeney received a phone call from the preferred candidate requesting a 24-hour deferral. This was conveyed to the county board delegates at last night’s meeting.
Our preferred candidate was Aidan O’Rourke. His team was to consist of Mike McGurn Strength and Conditioning, two Roscommon coach/selectors, and a head coach Karl Lacy.
The reason for the delay was because of unexpected doubts in relation to Karl Lacy’s availability as head coach.
Unfortunately, this morning the county chairman received a call from Aidan O’Rourke informing him that he was withdrawing from the process.
The Roscommon GAA Management committee is very disappointed at the turn of events but are fully committed to completing the selection process.
However, the committee is concerned at attempts that have been made to influence the outcome of the process over recent days.
The committee believes that these events have undermined the integrity of the process and potentially affected our ability to attract a new manager.
In addition, some of the public commentary on social media has been extremely unhelpful

Isn't the real life job of the county board pro a teacher? Not the first misguided statement either. The one about booing Andy Moran should never have become public viewing.

not informing the delegates how much they have to pay for the House in Dublin; in the Club Rossie draw Report on their website they did not have the decency to tell the public how many tickets were sold or how much was raised.
What? So nobody knows how many tickets are available, isn't that against some rule for a lottery?
If the house was bought for say 'mates rates' of 250k, and they want to make a decent profit then they should be looking at raising close to a million. 10k tickets at €100 ea.
That makes the odds pretty crap. 1/10,000 or .01%. Nice incentive if you were even considering supporting the team but don't think it's a likely outcome. There aren't even 6k people in Ros Town, and if you were in a draw with the entire town you wouldn't think your chances were very good.

There are 15,000 tickets available and they're being advertised in Dublin and the commuter belt rather than Roscommon.
Must be quite a bit spent on advertising actually.

It has been advertised in Roscommon, there was pieces on the local radio and papers. It has also got airtime on national radio and in national papers.

No real need for billboards etc in Roscommon, I doubt anyone living/working locally hasn't heard about it.It needs a bigger push in Dublin and surrounding areas as many wouldn't have a clue about Roscommon GAA.

They have sold tickets around Dublin the last few weeks with stands in shopping centres and that's to continue afaik.

Will also be a bigger push locally in the county in the coming weeks.

    Would Sean Mcdermott be interested???

Maybe the Co. Board officials could double up and take it on!

They have made such as mess of the whole process, that any appointment made now will only be a token at this stage.

For a team that are once again back at the "rebuilding stage", a manager and backroom team needed to be in place by now to start the process.

David will get the job no doubt and he was probably helped by Sean's Tweet for a inside manager.

What players didnt want him? There is no panel at the moment so what player or players are you aware of that has such an opinion of themselves they feel they have a right to firstly be part of the next Roscommon panel and secondly have a say in who manages them.i spoke to two players from last years panel in the last few days and they were more than happy with O Rourke and his proposed management team. I asked them was there any truth that players didnt want him and they said none what so ever and if there was it was players secretly going behind the rest of the panels back.

    the players didnt want him

Yes this is true the players want to choose the manager so he will keep the current panel together an outside man could do a overhaul of the squad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,547 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

Is that based on the rubbish printed in a local paper?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,074 ✭✭✭manofwisdom

Local journalist Ian Cooney has thrown the players under the bus over the non appointment of Aidan O'Rourke. True rossie he calls himself on Twitter maybe he should change that to a true gob****e as speculation like that won't help only hinder things further.

  • Registered Users Posts: 130 ✭✭rosknight

Anyone get the feeling that Cooney is very close to one of the CB officials who appears to be leaking quite a bit of information. I actually feel sorry for both Niall Carthy and Ciaran Heneghan who were innocently caught up in this whole mess as part of the selection team with the incompetent CB officials. I would imagine these 2 could tell us a story or two in relation to the whole sorry saga.

I heard Ian Cooney on the co commentary on Shannonside radio a few times for matches, would i be right in saying GAA football isn't his first love sport? as his knowledge of the game doesn't sound the best.

Plenty of local journalists in every county craving for national media attention i presume Cooney is doing the same here with his speculation article and not caring who he upsets along the way.

Isnt he a true Rossie by telling the Truth????

  • Registered Users Posts: 591 ✭✭✭White lighting

He is not telling the truth though hes talking ****e. The captain and one or two other made it known they would prefer Casey to county board but that was speaking on behalf of themselves and not on behalf of the panel who had no problem with O'Rourke and his management team(He wasnt able to get it together anyway).
Cooney is getting his wrong info from some clown "Aidan Heneghan" on twitter and the county P.R.O  who blamed the players because everyone on selection committee was made look like a complete  gob****e with O'Rourke bull****ting them with a fake management team that was sub letting jobs and they bought it and nearly put him before the clubs.

Where is the proof that he is telling the truth? A true rossie wouldn't speculate like he has done.

As I said last week Roscommon have dodged a bullet by not appointing Aidan O'Rourke, though what is the chances of such an incompetent county board appointing someone decent now?

After all that, looks like its now going to be Anthony Cunningham. Would you call him an inside/outside manager??

Best possible appointment if true. A hell of a lot better than Casey or Dineen anyway in my opinion
