Yep, society stops pretending to give a f&%k about you unless you are a baby, child or a mother.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 415 ✭✭greenybaby

It means "back off, i don't want you smashing into my rear end and killing my child just cos you are in a hurry to get to somewhere"

It is self explanatory really, you tailgate a car, grand your loss if they brake suddenly and you rear end them, but if there is a child in the back and you rear end them causing death to said child/children then it is both your loss!

Really do people think before starting threads here?! oh wait it's AH you're not allowed have an opinion or get on a high horse

and before it's said - I will not get down off my high horse

What if an adult is in the back, is it fair game then?

it's safe to say that most road goers will actually have the decency to back off if they see a baby on board sign, a baby is a lot more fragile than an adult, now if it was to come to that and let's say i smashed into the back of a car and killed an adult then yes i would be upset but i can safely say i would be more upset if it was a child!

Or you could just park in them anyways. Supermarkets don't have their own private parking attendants and I couldn't give a sh1t about another person having to push a pram a few extra feet from their car.

Those spaces were only invented to entice mothers in who are going to spend a wad of cash on sugary nonsense because their offspring won't stop screaming.

Your scale of regret is not of my concern.

If I get a car, I'll be sure to stick a baby on board sign on it, may reduce the chances of people crashing into me.

It will just make you a target for tailgating. Nobody wants to crash into you, the only person who will change their actions based on your sign are bored people in a traffic jam or stuck behind you.

You asked a question, you got an answer, simples

You do that, there's no harm in it, apart from eejits like the OP and others getting worked up about it

Massive amount of irony here, you've just made an incredibly childish petty post yourself. What exactly was childish about my posts?

If someone is idiotic enough to tailgate another car, or drive irresponsibly, then I seriously doubt they are going to somehow become model road users when they see a Baby on Board sign.

Oh the irony. I started the thread to get your opinion. You on the other hand, adopt a pissy attitude because someone expresses an opinion that you don't happen to share...

What's with the attitude? Seriously, you're coming across as a complete asshole.

And I'm far from worked up about them. I don't really see the point of them, and am curious what others think. You seem to be fairly riled up about something though.

Just walking home from the shop there, and noticed several cars with "Baby on Board" signs. Never gave them much thought before, but got to thinking about why people stick them up. I know people will say for safety purposes, but I doubt some maniac is gonna think "Sh!t, there's a baby in that car, better tailgate someone else instead!".

If it's not for safety, is it just about proclaiming to the world that you have kids- "Look at me everyone, I'm fertile!!". Or am I missing something entirely?

It's to let people know you're a good kidnapper.

There are those that actually hope they would have a bit of common sense

You started a thread you got my opinion, I don't give a damn if I come across as an asshole, tbh imo you are only saying that because I called you an eejit, get over it.

obviously they do annoy you for you to start a thread and i am not the only one to point that out.
I don't need to explain why I am riled up, it only takes a few minutes to read the responses here to get worked up and on that note I am out, have better things to be at than explain myself on the net

Eh yeah, obviously. I generally have a low opinion of people who stoop to insults just because someone holds a contrary opinion to them...

obviously they do annoy you for you to start a thread and i am not the only one to point that out.

They don't annoy me. I think they're pointless, and people use them for reasons other than child safety.

I don't need to explain why I am riled up,

    I didn't ask you to.

Maybe you should ask your doctor for something to help you control your irrational anger over innocuous threads? Or, I dunno, take deep breaths before logging onto boards?
have better things to be at than explain myself on the net

And yet you logged in to do just that...

What are Deep Breaths? Are they like Airwaves?

Purchase a bigger car? Drive at the speed limit?
Both seem more logical and effective solutions than a big yellow sign.

Ya i don't see the point in having those signs up, only to let the world know you have children.
It's not as if i'm going to rear-end someone if they don't have a sign up.

As for 'child safety' reasons, well from what i have witnessed from some of these 'baby on board' drivers, they might want to learn how to drive firstly, and then maybe learn where not to park - parking on double yellows just because you have those signs up doesn't mean you are allowed to do it.

I've a mate that failed the nct test and one of the failures was for having a sign up obstructing the rear view. Think it was one of those poxy little united supporter on board ones. So they must not make the car road worthy in the eyes of a state testing center. I think they should incur penalty points and an on the spot fine.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,296 ✭✭✭Frank Black

The real purpose of these signs is to act as a warning to other road users that the driver of the car is most likely suffering from sleep deprivation and/or listening to a ear piercing screaming from the back seat, hampering their ability to drive properly.

If something is hampering their ability to drive properly then they shouldnt really be driving.
