Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

I've started putting together the DUSAC Winter Talk Series 2011/2012 on behalf of Dublin University Sub Aqua Club.

Once more we're going to be exploring the challenging side of diving and have an excellent set of speakers to talk about a range of topics from the leading and bleeding edge.

The schedule is still work in progress but I'd like to let you know where we are with it so far.

Artur Kozlowski, Cave Diving Explorer RIP

It is with great shock and sadness that we heard the news that Artur did not return from his last dive.

We had hoped to welcome him back to Trinity to make a presentation in November.

He made many friends here when last he came to share his love of exploration. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family.

Mark Dixon and Jeff Cornish - Thurs 17th Nov : Darkstar are coming to Dublin! Mark and Jeff will be talking about how the Darkstar wreck diving team operated in the north channel and western approaches off the north of Ireland and planned and executed extremely challenging dives on very very deep iconic shipwrecks like the RMS Empress of Britain in 165m.

Des Quigley - Thurs 24th Nov : Many a sorry looking diver has washed up on the shore of the National Hyperbaric Centre with DCI (the bends) and been treated with other unfortunates of the last resort post. Owner Des Quigley will be speaking on the topic of "Hyperbarics... The black-hole of Medicine". Bring your best open eyes, enquiring mind and listening ears.

Karl Brady and Connie Kelleher - Dec date to be confirmed : Karl and Connie work for the Underwater Archaelogical Unit of the National Monuments Service and deal with conservation of our underwater heritage. They will be talking about the shipwreck sites that they have worked on and the Shipwreck Inventory of Ireland.

Derek Flanagan - Jan date to be confirmed : "All stations, all stations.....this is Malin Head Coastguard Radio". Malin Head Coast Guard Radio moved from the signal tower at Bamba's Crown to the present location in 1912 so next year it will be celebrating 100 years and the talk would be an excellent opportunity to profile MRSC Malin and the Irish Coast Guard and the service they provide to the Maritime community.

Charise McKeon and Koen Verbruggen - Thurs 2nd Feb : Charise and Koen work for the Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI) specifically on the INFOMAR Irish Seabed Survey project. Its a very large project but the speakers will be focusing on the work they are doing building up spectacular survey imagery of shipwrecks and populating their wreck database and explaining the techniques they use to do so.

Michael Griffin - Thurs Feb 23rd : Michael is an excellent presenter and will be updating us on what he's been up to since 2009 when he last spoke to us. He's a GUE trained cave diver following the DIR diving system. His positive attitude and commitment to diving cannot fail to inspire. Between now and the date of the talk he will be visiting Florida twice to dive with the WKPP cave survey team and also relaxing in cenotes in Mexico.

There will be more detail closer to the dates, times and locations, publicity, club raffles, prizes, sponsors, hoo hah and hype etc.

All talks will be hosted in Trinity College Dublin usually on a Thurs evening @ 7.30pm with afters in O'Neills of Pearse Street.

All talks will be free of charge and open to the public. There will be charitable donations accepted at the end of each talk and passed on to a range of worthy causes.

Keep an eye on www.technicaldiving.ie for updates

    All the best,

    Stephen McMullan

    Thanks Stephen.

I've posted the talks up at dusac.org/talks, and will update as further details are worked out. Looks like it should be an excellent series.

"Frontiers of Diving" Winter Talk Series 2011/2012: Jim Warny - Thurs 3rd Nov : Jim Warny, Belgian cave diver resident in Ireland will be making a tribute to our departed friend Artur Kozlowski and describing his achievements in cave exploration in Ireland. More details on www.dusac.org/talks

I'd just like to note that I'm no longer involved with the running of this talk series. From this point on the committee of Dublin University Sub Aqua Club (DUSAC) will take responsibility for running the events. The decision was out of my hands.

    Thanks, Stephen
