Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello boardsies,
Went with the family out to Farmleigh today, and was quite disappointed when not only could I not take photo's on the tour, but I wasn't allowed to even bring my Dslr into the house (it was in a backpack and had to use a locker for the bag).
Anyway, got me thinking, where do boardsies know that are camera friendly or unfriendly? Since getting the camera I am more interested in "touring" my own city but if I couldn't bring the camera it would be a big negative.

    Many thanks

    Jim

Many of the OPW heritage sites are photography friendly. I went to Tipperary over the weekend and got to Cahir Castle, the Swiss Cottage and the Rock of Cashel and got plenty of photos (no photography inside the Swiss Cottage rooms but photos of the exterior is allowed; no restrictions on the other two).

since farmleigh is often used for state visits - QEII stayed there - it's not just used as a tourist attraction; so security rules such as a ban on photography are cast in a different light.

Bear in mind, that in many cases photography in places run by OPW is permitted for personal use, if the intended use is commercial then you need to get a permit from the OPW.

Here are few friendly places I've visited recently
    Glendalough
    Memorial Gardens
    Kilruddery Gardens
    Jerpoint Abbey
    Powerscourt Gardens
    Hook Lighthouse

Any of the big parks where there are family days like Newbridge House Ardgillen and Malahide are photo friendly locations with plenty to shoot. I am unsure if you can shoot inside them but flash photography is probably not allowed.

Might be an idea to have a list on here of photo friendly sites with Museaums and houses.

Jimdagym were you allowed photograph the gardens? Dublin city has plenty to photograph sop dont let this hiccup put you off.

Can anyone tell me if flash is allowed in Kilmainhan Gaol?

Yeah Leo, the gardens were no problem, just the tour of inside the house was a no-no. I'm not even sure why tbh. If it's a security measure, well they show people the few rooms you are allowed in all day everyday so you don't see anything secret. It's not a no flash rule either, it's straight out no photos. Shame really, it's a wonderful building.

Bunratty castle was fine also but no flash inside the castle its self.

This site lists all the Heritage Ireland sites : http://www.heritageireland.ie/en/

The description for each site indicates whether or not photography is allowed.
