Yum!! Used to have a flatmate who hated them in a obsessively anal way.... He used to go on a big rant every time I was cooking with them and do a big melodramatic sigh every time he opened the veg cupboard and see them. He insisted on scrubbing and bleaching the whole kitchen after an onion was chopped and would decide for himself when my onions were gone off and fire them in the bin. Used to get the fcucker back by chopping one in half and rubbing it on every surface of the kitchen after he'd scrub it. And then he'd come back and rant that there really was NO way to eradicate the smell.... Muppet!

Eh, how could you make a mistake like that? I mean this thread clearly refers to 'onion', not 'bunions'. When was the last time anyone said 'onions' to refer to 'bunions'? Jeez.

And the prize for sense of humour bypass goes to......

Wait, wait! Ireland and Europe are in economic chaos, most of Ireland is unemployed and saving up every penny they have, Italy and Spain are about to get a bailout, all of Europe will soon default followed by the US, which will drive the first world into another Great Depression, and YOU'RE throwing away meals just because they contain onions!!

What is the world coming to?

If you don't like the onions, put them in a envelope and send them to Somalia. If you don't, you're a monster.

Us onionphobes have suffered in silence for far too long, it's time a voice was heard.

On the otherhand I am partial to a nice piece of pigeon breast. Very economic as well as they are abundant and a nuisance :D

I hate the feckers. I had a mad painful one on my foot a while ago....

Oh Sorry....I thought you said bunions !!

Lets put it this way. I made a shopping list last week with 5 dinners listed for the remainder of the week. When I started collating the ingredients needed I ended up writing down

10x 250g packs of Closed Cup Mushrooms
    3x Bags of Cooking Onions
2x Net of 3 big White Onions
1x Net of 3 Big Red Onions

I'd decided on all our Mushroom and Onion dinners in a row. (Feeding 7 People)

    We likes our Onions! :D

I wouldn't like to be sitting behind your family at a concert or football match.

What an awesome name to have, Mr. Onions.

If i was a girl I'd marry him, just for the surname.

I've recently been convinced to eat red onions. Had them in a sandwich and it was divine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,349 ✭✭✭✭starlit

Not a mad fan of my eyes tearing! I like the taste of them in a toasted cheese sandwich or panini but not mad in them as part of a dinner cause they burn so easily. I like the red onion though much more tasty!

Mmm, onions make everything better. I always eat just onion chopped up with salt on its own. Delicious.

I love onions in everything but my favorite would be red onions on a burger. Om nom nom nomnom.

    I loves Onions.

As a kid I used to eat onion sandwiches. Slices of raw onion doused in salt and pepper between two slices of batch. Looking back, it was a bit of an impoverished childhood!

Onions go well in anything, salads, soups, sambos, spuds, stews, steaks.

And french onion soup is the best soup ever. Ever ever.

I remember having curry once in a friend's house as a kid. There were loads of onions in it, in huge pieces, which I wasn't used to at home. I very carefully avoided eating them (they seemed to make up about half the dish) until the end, when I mistook a huge chunk with lots of sauce on it for a piece of chicken. I gagged and tried to simultaneously avoid vomiting and hide my disgust.

Ahh yes, of course, eating your friend's mothers dinner as a child. I remember it all too well unfortunately. It simply wasn't the same. F*ck you Mrs. Murphy. F*** YOU AND YOUR F*CKING STUPID HARD POTATOES. I WANTED MY POTATOES MASHED YOU F*CKING HEARTLESS, INCONSIDERATE BITCH !

Personally I feckin' love them and have onions in practically every meal. I don't go for the little sacks of small scrawny onions but for the pack of three big fcuk off juicy spanish onions. Great with every meal!

    You?

Love them, love walking out to garden grabbing a fresh onion chop it up on a bit of wholemeal bread a bit of grated cheese over the top and grill it for a minute .

Why buy spanish onions, grow your own they could not be easier to grow or at least buy irish, their nicer because their fresher

I love onions and garlic, they are the bases for most of the meals I cook.
I love raw white onion with ham and tomato & cheese, and with egg mayonnaise,I like raw red onion with tuna mayonnaise and salads.
I mix them in with scrambled eggs, and with omelettes along with cheese, garlic, bacon and herbs.
I like them raw on toast with cheese and pepper.
I love fried onions, garlic and mushrooms with a juicy steak.
I love chunky slices of onions and peppers in spaghetti bolgenese, stews, and curries.
I brush my teeth or chew gum after eating so don't really get the onion breath.
    Onions are yummy!:)

I'd live on them they are inexpensive and you can basically put them in every dinner :p I'm going to make an omlette with some later..nom!

Love raw onions, could eat it all day. Which used to come in in handy years ago of a friday or saturday night after an underage drinking session.

Onions boiled, fried, stewed, roasted, baked, raw, any way they can be cooked, very versatile and delicious.
I heard that a warm roasted onion held to the ear was a cure for earache and that onions boiled in milk were good for a dicky tummy.

The people who love onions here are making me despair.....the absolute bane of my life they are. It's YOUR fault they're in 80% of cooked meals and ruin perfectly good food!

I'd never, ever put one of the b*stardin' things in any food I prepare, but I have to be so particular in what food I buy so as they don't contain chunks of onions, ditto I'm very selective of where I go out to eat, to make sure I don't go to places that cook everything with onions - or else it's the kiddie menu for me.

And don't say 'Oh just pick them off'.....they're so potent, they leave a lingering taste in the juices of any food they touch. And the smell!

Without a doubt, the're the single most overrated thing there is on this planet.

I adore onions, especially the red ones. I love French Onion Soup, I think it is the ultimate comfort food.

However, it is really important that the boy or girl you're kissing likes onions too ;):p

I don't know how anyone can't like onions, they're just yum. Raw or cooked. Other half hates them, and worse still doesn't like cheese either
