Op I am only going to give you sympathy if you are in such a horrid place that would make us all feel sad for you. i.e. the worst rugged mountain path in the Himalayas, a wet and humid part of eastern Asia or some foreign prison...? So if you cannot tick any of the above, I can only guess you are doing the Australaisa trip which is now the rite of passage of the Irish affluent teenager? Am i heading in the right direction? So, go to a supermarket and buy any type of teabag and cart of milk and sit down sober and make yourself a cupann tae. Enjoy. ring Mammy etc. Then brush yourself off and get back to business cos there's nothing at home for ya so go on, get back earning and traveling and having fun. Come home when you're a bit older and richer! What tea is your fave? We can post it out to ya!

If you want real tea, cast of the cloak of nationalism and enjoy the light and refreshing, yet substantial, flavours of the Twinnings variety of teas.

Myself and the boyfriend, mad tea drinkers, I'm talking 4-8 cups a day depending on how busy ya were, came to the States for the Summer. Brought a giant box of teabags with us, arrive into our apartment, NO KETTLE :eek: NO POT :eek: We never got to a shop as quick in our lives, and bought one of them stove kettles, none of that fancy electrical stuff, no way, for $10. Its been high 30s here a lot and we'll still drink the tea Sure ya couldn't laaave it behind ya!

Oh yeah, for anyone who drinks Green Tea and that kinda thing, do ye put milk in? Two friends of mine swear by it, but Jaysus, tis rank enough without it bein milky too:eek:!

the trick is to leave the bags in to a rolling boil leave and reheat
with those temps id of been sipping ice tea :cool:
also chinise tea after a nice meal [spicy] is quite refreshing no milk or sugar tho

No you don't put milk into the aul green tea. If the days are too hot have some iced tea. Although if you like herbal tea there's a brand called Yogi - try their mint and Egyptian liquorice tea. You'll get your orgasm... ;-)

It's all in the head i reckon.

Used to think that myself, but I eventually spotted the contrast - a friend of mine always brews huge pots of Barrys when I call to her place (rock and ROLLLLLLLLL :cool:) otherwise I'd drink Lyons. Barrys is milder with a slightly saccharine aftertaste, Lyons is harsher, which I personally prefer (I really am hardcore). Other brands though, I wouldn't have a clue.

It's funny how most mainland Europeans seem to find it pretty rank (they probably don't say rank...) to put milk in regular black tea.

Strong milky tea with a squirt of honey in it, and brought with a plate of chocolate digestives....:(:eek::P

I'm slowly working on finding out which brand of tea I prefer. Currently I have Lyons and Barry's tea in the kitchen. There might be a few rogue Twinings as well. Must do a taste test later.

Better buy in some more biscuits.

I'm a Lyons Gold Blend fan, but you have to compare the best Lyons with the best Barry's, the cheap version of either tastes like sweepings. Not a Barry's fan.

The main thing is though to find a blend that suits the water in your area. If you are in a hardwater area the same blend of tea will taste different if you drink it in a softwater area.

Depends on the tea. Most of the teas mentioned in this thread are better with milk.

Irish people generally favour robust malty teas and these usually come with a lot of tannins. Milk counteracts these tannins and allows enjoyment of the malty flavour without leaving your mouth as dry as a carpet.

I see Earl Grey has been mentioned. Earl Grey is disgusting and should not be marketed as tea. In England is there any nice tea? It's all bleugh, bleugh , bleugh over there

Arguments over which brand is best are essentially useless however, when the person making the tea is inexperienced in the matter- It's a fine art you know.

Only the cheaper English tea like Tetley, yes. Tea like Twinnings is far better than regular Irish tea (maybe exception would be of one of the Bewleys' varieties).

Agree with you on Earl Grey, but his wife tastes much better.

Has anyone tasted the Bewley's "Dublin Morning Tea". Having crossed the city on many a weekend morning, this sounds to me like something crossed between stale urine, fag ash, and sidewalk vomit)
