Guys just wondering id anyoen can clarify something for me.

I'm looking at picking up some BDUs pretty soon (am starting out in airsoft). am i right in thinking that there is no difference between the US Army BDU and the USAF BDU patterns. I'm talking about the older BDU not the newer Army Combay Uniform (ACU) and Airmans Battle Uniform (ABU) types. visually to me they look identical the only diference being the branch tapes, rank etc

Yeah, before the digital generation came along, all four branches of the U.S. military used the same DPM, the M81 Woodland pattern.

grand wanted some USAF gear but i can just pick up anything now and just change the branch tapes etc if needed.

I was talking to an AF guy a while ago and he hates teh newer ABU anyone any opinions of them? he felt it wasnt effective camaflague, he said it worked well in an urban type setting but not a woodland environment

That's fine. I can't recall hearing of air force types out I'm the woods anyway. Makes more sense to camouflage against runways and hangars
