Who owns it? The business I mean, not the premises.

A few guys are in on it, Jackie (4 Aces Casino) and Rocky (Emperor City) are 2 that are involved! They are delighted with the response so far, i haven't been in work since this thread started but i know when i tell them about it they will be happy with the feedback from you all :D

Wanted to try this place but they don't do take away.

Don't know of any other Chinese buffet in Galway so I'm sure this will do well.

I think there is a restaurant/buffet over an pucan its called chili garden it would not be as diverse as star king also on certain days the place across from the spiniker offers a buffet

I had thought the same before I visited them.

"All you can eat" places are funny IMO, because you go in there with this notion that you're a remorseless eating machine capable of putting them out of business in one sitting. Instead you end up having one dinner size portion, rub your belly, leave feeling somewhat defeated by the establishment and a little ashamed of your feeble capacity to execute your original plan of attack.

Of course that lesson is quickly forgotten by the time you return ;)

Your not doing it right if thats the case :pac:

Tried it on Sunday, unreal. Needs more duck though, as soon as they brought out a new tray of it , it was gone in a flash. The peanut butter sauce with the chicken skewers is dee-lish! Deserts went down a treat, i never felt fatter when walking to the car after, i will be back.

    Ad in today's freesheet:
'The biggest eat all you want buffet in Ireland'

They also have pints this Friday & Saturday evening for €1.00 () - guinness, carlsberg, budweiser.

Was in there yesterday. Recommended. I didn't try challenge myself with the 'all you can eat' thing - just had a nice dinner and dessert for my 9e. Sated.

Great and all that sounds, I don't think that's necessarily a good idea. I haven't seen the advert you are talking about, but I'd imagine you'll have all sorts arriving in the door with the intention of hogging tables for the night at that price. I wonder is there a time limit on how long you can stay for.

I think if it wants to do well as a restaurant, it should focus on that instead of also trying to be an alternative to the pub/off-license. Even if they wanted to divide floor space up between cheap drinks and food, that would be better. Otherwise it's just going to attract the wrong crowd (Fast Eddies, anyone?) and make it difficult for the rest to enjoy their meal.

I will go be going back a second time though based on my first experience. This place looks like it's going to do very well for itself.

I can see many other restaurants around the city (Asian, in particular) following the "all you can eat" model with the exception of maybe Asian Tea House and one or two others.

Interesting times for the restaurant business in Galway.

    Was there last night.

Thought the food was great and they had the offer of the €1.00 pints as well.

i just want to add to the praise that this place is getting. went there last night and it was just lovley. the cheesy band was great. loved the food (bar the cheesecake i got. it was frozen or something)

i'd say they need to add lables to what each of the dishes are, which is the only gripe i had withe the place. i'll be back wearing these:

The biggest shopping centre in the west with a large amount of parking spaces adjacent to major national routes is plain undesirable for such a business.

i went earlier with the girlfriend and was not impressed at all.there was a really poor selection of food and none of it was labelled.it was busy enough but they didnt seem to be topping up the food.i sampled abit of everything but ranged from meh to disgusting.for dessert there was a selection of ice cold horrible cheesecake, containers of tesco own brand ice cream, cheap poundsaver marshmellows for the chocolate fountain and 2.20 euro for a small glass of coke!there was no staff to remove our plates between courses.anyone whos been to Jimmy Chungs in Edinburgh or Dublin to a lesser extent will know that this place is miles behind in terms of food quality and service for a buffet.great idea for a buffet in Galway but even the admittedly lovely interior is let down by the dog food they serve in there.cannot believe some of the positive reviews in here.i felt robbed for 32 euro for 2.i could of had a three course meal in the lovely Royal Villa for 36 euro for 2.this is my view hope others have a better time than we had,oh and mind the step!

The biggest shopping centre in the west? If it really is the biggest one.. I dont get it - honestly. Why in Ireland which is not poor country you dont have decent shopping centers but some cheap old hangars with no proper shops. Whats in there? Tesco, Penneys and 2eu shop?

My friends were there ( in Star King) and were not impressed at all, I trust their taste and not going to risk. They said its for people who value qantity over quality!

The Headford Road shopping centre is the best in Galway in my opinion, are you for real like? It has the biggest Supermacs in the country, along with Dorothy Perkins, Wallis, Xtra-vision, O'Briens off-licence, Burton, THREE phone shops (Meteor, O2, Carphone Warehouse), Bank of Ireland, Miss Selfridge, Hanley's, Easons, Kozzy's and a pharmacy, healthfood store, opticians, motor store, Subway and a bowling alley! Its handy to get around, loads of free parking, no hassle.

It's a dump!... the SC that is.

I have to agree. It feels old and the parking isn't sufficient. If you travel around a lot of smaller towns have much nicer / newer shopping centres. The difference is theirs were built during the boom and are still nice and shiny. Galway, on the other hand, had its shopping centre's years before these smaller towns had squat.

The restaurant sounds like an interesting find. I think the location isn't bad at all. We often bemoan the fact that other than McDonalds there is little choice for grabbing a bite and a pint before a movie at the Omniplex.

It is old but there are plans to redevelop the centre. I've been hearing this for about four or five years now though and there is still no sign of any work beginning.

Back to topic, Star King sounds good, just hope it doesn't attract the wrong crowd. When Kate's became the Central Tavern (I think that was the name?) it declined and became a bit of a dive in my opinion.

Erm.. Several quality menswear shops, at least 3 major womens clothing chains, one of the best butchers in Galway, one of Galways only remaining Video shops, a bookshop, 2 mobile phone shops, a Supermacs, a hairdressers, a bakery, one of Galways oldest newsagents, an electrical goods shop, a chemist a greengrocer and two banks.
    Was there something in particular?

Last time I checked. And don't forget Gourmet Tart Company... yum!

seafood bar was good, otherwise tepid food, gateaux was terrible, lack of taste from the choc fountain.... I dont eat non free range chicken so did not try the chicken dishes but if you want to pile on the pounds (weight) you are at the right place..........

Myself & herself went there this afternoon, 1.30-2pm ish. The food wasn't very good, it was mostly lukewarm at best. Nothing is labelled so if you don't know what it is, tough. Had blackforest gateaux for dessert, wasn't good either.

Just plain avoid if you like your food.

If your goat is to just stuff yourself with poor food, this place may well be perfect.

Was in there the other day for lunch and i thought it was excellent. I agree with you on the labeling issue, had a bit of a tofu incident, and they steps are lethal outside the main door, but other than that it was great. the food was yum, plates were cleared as soon as you finished and the food was being topped up too. It was very busy for lunch so maybe it is a bot of pot luck. Step needs to be sorted before someone splits themselves though.
