Clarify please, do you mean un-pasteurised, un-homogenised or just fresh from the 4 legged beasties.

raw milk is milk that hasn't been homogenized or pasteurized. if it comes from a healthy herd, it's nutrition is above and beyond the supermarket stuff. i used to get it all the time when i visited america. best milk i ever had.

Probably wouldn't be able to get it in shops here, thanks to all the health and safety regulations. I'd say your best best is to try the various farmer's markets around the county (think Kinvara has a good one, give it a google), failing that you could always go for a spin someday and pull in wherever you find a dairy farm.

Try this number as well, 09097 41107, it's for the DeLaval milking supplies store in Portumna, they will know a lot of the dairy farmers out in that area and might be able to help you out as well.

cheers for that mate. i did read that sheridan's cheese mongers carries it, but probably only the dublin shop. and then 2 other stores which are publicly advertising. one is derina allen in ballymaloe

i will definitely call that number. the ban is coming in the autumn of 2011...hopefully enough people write to fight it.

Did you find raw milk? - I know they definitely do it in Sheridans in Galway - they get one delivery a week and you have to pre-order it

Yep - still legal - for the moment anyway. Am surprised as have seen on their facebook page that it's available there, they get a delivery once a week...

picking up my raw milk order tomorrow in sheridans galway. they like you to order friday for pickup the following tuesday.

a lot of people are banning together to fight it. i hope it stays legal. if not, im sure you can still find farmers to get it from under the sly. but its nonsense if they ban it because raw cheese and butter will still be legal. and if they go on about it being a health issue, then i guess they should ban junk food, fags and alcohol while they are at it!

Fingers crossed for the latter - these things are always about public opinion and support - it's easier for them to ban it and as long as only a handful of people care they will, but if everyone starts asking questions and gets behind the campaign well then I think the government will be forced to re-think it

I don't think there is any popular groundswell behind this raw milk campaign, but it has been very effective in getting media coverage.

As far as I can see, most of the noise seems to be coming from people with a vested interest in flogging the stuff, and some of their employees.

I'm interested to know how you got on.

Do you buy straight from a farmer ?
Do you get much cream line on milk? Is it skimmed?
    Did you notice health benefits?
    Thanks
