Hate to be the sceptical type but how would you verify that the site is legit before donating?

I'd say that when you see the advertising that the people behind it are doing it's unlikely they'd want to bring this much attention to themselves if it wasn't legit.

Haha that lad that was just shown on sky being carried away by police looked like about 60.

"Images of burning buildings, cars aflame and stripped-out shops may provide spectacular fodder for a restless media, ever hungry for new stories and fresh groups to demonise, but we will understand nothing of these events if we ignore the history and the context in which they occur."

    Good article.

Apparently the broom is now the image of Resistance.

    Against what exactly I wonder?

That article is crap. She says Haringey in tottenham has an unemployment rate of 8.8%, double the national average. The Uk unemployment rate is 7.7%. If it is 8.8% then they are pretty lucky. We would kill for an unemployment rate of 8.8%, its just below half of what ours is. Then she says the richest 10% are 100 times are 100 times better off than the poor. That is just left wing hysteria. Just because the richest 10% are making more money doesnt mean the poorest are not. The gap is widening but the poor are not getting poorer.

This is true, but I presume - without reading it - there follows an analysis that requires even more money and resources to be supplied to the chavs who can't be arsed to do anything for themselves.

    I'd love to be wrong.

Ok, I read it - no solutions offered at all, but bleating about 'inequality'. Solution: make everyone poor?

    What?

Blame left wing all you want.

Right wing focusing on greed and money is the problem. I thought wealth filtered down?

I think I've been watching too much Sangat TV.

I'm torn between wanting to buy a sofa and getting some buttered ghee.

Sooner these riots are over, the better!

I love the music for the ad for Photo Shop. Wanna go get some pictures framed there now.

Share the resources available amoungst everyone.
There's more than enough to go round you know.
Obviously there are no simple solutions.
The occurrences of the last few days shouldn't surprise anyone.
    'Bleating' about inequality?
So how does one discuss the obvious inequality in British society without it being labelled bleating?
There is an elite, who are defended by those who would like to be amoungst their ranks. They should have their wealth removed from them as they obtained it through deception and unfair means.

The coming insurrection shall take many different guises...

And no, just because I'm not shocked by it doesn't mean I condone it either.
    I'm just not surprised.

    Could it happen in Ireland?

Well if the KTC ad is to be believed, and there's nothing to suggest it shouldn't be, you could use it to make a load of sweet things to eat.

It does. Which is why people can afford to never work a day in their lives, yet still organise riots on their Blackberries. Do you think the poor were better off 50 years ago, or 100, or 500? All their material needs are catered for courtesy of the taxpayer.

Seriously, this 'poor are getting poorer' hogwash might have persuaded people 100 years ago, but it doesn't stand up to any analysis at all.

Discuss it all you like, but stop begging the question that 'inequality' is the problem. Would it be better if everyone was poor, as under a communist system? (well, of course the party hierarchy would be rich)

Or, more usually, through hard work and talent. I don't want to be rich - I'm not very materialistic. I'd rather be educated than rich.

Me neither. It seems handing these people everything they need for generations and expecting nothing back isn't working very well. Time for a new approach.

The money has filtered down. Thats why they have social welfare and a free health system an just because Lord Sugar is making more money doesnt mean John Smith should get more money for doing nothing.

I was looking at the news but haven't seen anything about riots tonight have they stopped?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,570 ✭✭✭Ulysses Gaze

EDL attacked the police in Eltham. Threw bottles at riot police.

As I said earlier, worse scumbags than any rioter.

    Has it calmed down tonight?

Of course not, they can watch Somalia on their new 32" Tv's. It's all relative.

They want the latest iPod. Sure Irish people wanted a 3 bed semi for 400k 2 hours away from work and paid it.

The papers and FF told them.

Now they want a NAMA for the little people.

Meanwhile the Directors sun themselves in Barbados and who cares?

I love having some ghee on my sofa!

Jaysus, does it always have to go back to Soviet Russia every time somebody suggests a socialist alternative?:(

We need a new socialism which has learnt from the mistakes of the past and takes from the beneficial elements developed over the past number of years.

Or, more usually, through hard work and talent. I don't want to be rich - I'm not very materialistic. I'd rather be educated than rich.

Me too. I have my young buck (6) going round saying 'mo money, mo problems'. Education is key. Which is why the privatisation of education, as seen recently in the UK is very worrying indeed.
Me neither. It seems handing these people everything they need for generations and expecting nothing back isn't working very well. Time for a new approach.

    Absol-fcuking-loutely.

This underbelly of society which is responsible for all the looting and bad behavior has been created by the current system, therefore we need to try something else and not to be fooled into thinking that there is no alternative.

I don't think they are as interested in the genuinely poor as the hard left are in them. Tough choice: watch X-Factor, or CNN.

Yeah - 'I want a house, and I don't want to spend ten minutes looking at the sums, so just charge me what you like, I'll beg the bank for it'.

'The bank forced me to take the money. I had nothing to do with this.'

Certainly not the incompetent directors. Golden parachutes all around.

Classic case of the more things available to em, the greedier they get. The rise of the west via capitalism really has produced a new form of degenerate in a society with no real values. I've found burmese and naga folk are generally really amiable people with a strong moral code, with amazing etiquette; we are unfortunately positioned in just taking a lead from the UK/US in producing greedy marauding yobs and ogres who discuss tiger kidnappings and ram raids over a few tinnies and a few lines, almost exclusively to the sound of rave and hip hop. fact.
