I don't they are as interested in the genuinely poor as the hard left are in them. Tough choice: watch X-Factor, or CNN.

Yeah - 'I want a house, and I don't want to spend ten minutes looking at the sums, so just charge me what you like, I'll beg the bank for it'.

'The bank forced me to take the money. I had nothing to do with this.'

Certainly not the incompetent directors. Golden parachutes all around.

I've me iPod now, I'm happy!

And my 3 bed semi in suburbia!

Classic case of the more things available to em, the greedier they get. The rise of the west via capitalism really has produced a new form of degenerate in a society with no real values. I've found burmese and naga folk are generally really amiable people with a strong moral code, with amazing etiquette; we are unfortunately positioned in just taking a lead from the UK/US in producing greedy marauding yobs and ogres who discuss tiger kidnappings and ram raids over a few tinnies and a few lines, almost exclusively to the sound of rave and hip hop. fact.

    Vietnamese people fantastic as well.

Hip Hop has got zilch to do with it.

Jaysus, does it always have to go back to Soviet Russia every time somebody suggests a socialist alternative?:(
I wasn't talking about Soviet Russia. I could have been talking about Romania, or Poland, or China, or wherever. It just seems to be the way of socialism. Remember Animal Farm. That man was a genius.
    Pete M. wrote: »
We need a new socialism which has learnt from the mistakes of the past and takes from the beneficial elements developed over the past number of years.
We need to again try a system that has failed every time anyone tried to implement it? And not only has it failed, it has often been a human catastrophe. Why not stick with a system we know works, and try to improve that? I think it's fair to say that capitalism has improved massively in the last 200 years. You think it makes sense to abandon a system that works and has been shown to be amenable to improvement, and adopt a system that has failed, often disastrously, instead?

Me too. I have my young buck (6) going round saying 'mo money, mo problems'. Education is key. Which is why the privatisation of education, as seen recently in the UK is very worrying indeed.
Education does not seem to me to be something the private sector will necessarily do better than the state (I worked briefly in a private school in Switzerland - standards were terrible). But I'm willing to see what happens in the experiment. If it gets better results for the kids who are dumped in the rubbish schools, I'm all for it.

This underbelly of society which is responsible for all the looting and bad behavior has been created by the current system, therefore we need to try something else and not to be fooled into thinking that there is no alternative.
Well we clearly agree on something.

If there is a shortage of places in prisons in the UK, I have a great solution.

Find an uninhabited island (rock) off the coast of England, further north the better (colder).

Ship all the looters/rioters/thieves/thugs to this island to serve their sentences.

They are only allowed wear the clothes they were wearing while looting - hoodies are great for extreme cold :D

For food they only get Tesco brand rice.
One lighter between every five people.
One roll of bog roll each on arrival.
No guards - leave them to amuse each other on the island.

Oh.. and when their sentence is finished they get to swim home.

It's ignorant how your assuming that all the people involved in the rioting were asian! saying you would throw them on a rock Island and feed them rice. Most of the people involved were black and white!!!

I know the only asians most Irish people like are of the chinese and japanese and south east asians.

EDL attacked the police in Eltham. Threw bottles at riot police.

As I said earlier, worse scumbags than any rioter.

Both horrible groups but the EDL are not nearly on the level as those who burned people out of their homes and businesses.

As long as you don't mind watching kids being assaulted, old men being kicked to death, innocent men being killed under cars, and genuine misery and suffering as entertainment.

I think you'll find that most people, of all races, eat rice. It's the most popular staple food on the planet.

Yes but asians eat rice almost every day! Do italians eat rice most days? Or americans, come on. Why are you in denial or trying to covering the fact that the other poster was singling out asians and blaming them for the riots.

I'm sorry mate, but you're the one who is coming across as a racist now.

Hates racism. They say 'no, im not racist' only because they have learned accept black people and at the same time are racist/indifferent to other colours!

I don't understand I was talking about religion there. Religions and race are very much related and the cause often the cause of protests and riots e.g Belfast.

Last night you were here promoting creationalism and debunking evolution.

Now you're claiming that only Asian's eat rice.

I'm now convinced you are just trolling. Pretty good at it too.

An interesting video. Quite long, but worth listening to, gives a more indepth look from an insiders perspective.

I stumbled across this, horrific new footage of the riots in Manchester. I dont think they could broadcast this on tv.

Do you know if you look up history of rioting, you'll find these UK ones are quite mild.

Last year in Kyrgyzstan rioting killed 2000 people and it didn't make any news here at all.

I looked at the list of riots Here and it mad me think that Rioting is just a nasty piece of society that is going to rear its ugly head from time to time.

That Gavin McKenna guy doesn't sound like English is his first language, its very odd. I know lots of Germans, Dutch etc. who speak better, clearer English. He looks about a quarter or an eighth black: Ali G territory.

Listened to the whole thing: that Sheldon Thomas guy sounds like he's got his head screwed on.

A pride of bankers? Or an anthology of pros?

    Couldn't resist either.

Its a sad world we live in ... because if something doesnt directly effect. shock or pull a heart string with people. News reporters wont report.

Sure a bomb could go off tomorrow in the middle of Iran. Dozens Killed. It at best could get a 15 second news story. 2 people get killed in the uk ... different story.

    World we live in.

What is wrong with that? People in England would naturally be more interested in events in England than they would be in Iran, just like Iranians would be more interested in what happens there than in London.

If news reports were to deal with all global tragedies and events equally regardless of location then there wouldn't be enough time in the day to cover it all.
