There is a large e-petition to remove the council house and benefits for rioters. If it reaches 100,000 they have to discuss it in the commons

Seen that. Last night it was getting close to its target as well.

Oh wow not an e-petition!! Those so often bring about real change!!

If they take the council house and benefits off these guys, the crime rate will be up straight away, and there's nothing a government hates more than rising crime rates.

These people are given council houses and benefits to keep them (mostly) out of sight and out of mind to your average voter.

Ya I think it's this but it's actually crashed at the moment :)

    http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions?order=desc&sort=count&state=open

I think 100,000 signatures will be easy peasy, actually 1,000,000 would be easy to reach!!

I think they should round up all looters put them on a Island and sell the TV rights to a "Battle Royale" style show to pay for the damage. :D

I blame the Vicky Pollards of this world... creating feral youth after feral youth

and the welfare system for encouraging it (its the same in this country)
But for some reason, that's not really up for debate. Same as changes in the criminal justice system to keep violent recidivists from further harming the public - it's just not on the table for discussion.

did anyone see the black guy (youth worker) on channel 4 news last night?........he was bang on the money

he said it was no wonder you have kids running around crazy when most of them have no father figure in their lives to give them discipline

"you have children (teenage girls) having children and its a recipe for disaster "

he was dead right to say it

    This is far more sickening:

The one you have posted is completely out of context, what has probably happened is the coppers were radioed by colleagues giving them a heads up on whatever those kids were up to.

Rihanna singing about how she "likes the way it hurts" was a disgrace following her assault

OT but couldn't agree with you more on this.

Honestly thought I was the only one who felt like this. She made more money out of that assault than she would have made in her whole career if it hadn't happened. She's not Tina Turner. And her latest song about murdering someone who's raped her, why is she not being boycotted? Her main fan base is 12 year old girls!!!

Get real will ya. The police should of being using heavy handed tactics from the first night. The only way these little scumbags will learn is when they take a beating. End of.

Another thing that pisses me off is that I find i'm turning into a Right Winger on this, and its not my normal philosophy...

Did you think everyone right wing started out that way ?

If this was Belfast they'd have sent in the TA by now.

Hopefully the worst of it is over. They should have used the opportunity to remove a fair chunk of the scum from the gene pool tbh.

Agreed, would refer to my sister as a "bleeding heart" sometimes just to get a rise (I'm very proud of her :)). She has done work in Palestine and Guatemala for Amnesty International and all over the UK for Save the Children, but since muggings of both herself and her husband in Dublin over the last few years she has a slightly broader view of things.

Actually Save the Children may have contributed to her views aswell, some of the craythurs she saw were subjected to awful abuse at the hands of their benefit grabbing parents...

You can be both. Im proud to be a left wing, pinko, socialist, liberal, bleeding heart liberal. But I've been a victim of crime more times than I can recall, most recently I've had to move because of ongoing crime and even an attempt on my life. I see nothing contradictory in wanting to help the disadvantaged advocating better equality and actively beating the living shít out of people that attack you or locking up repeat offenders for life

Bah, I'm off to London on the 25th and noticed my hostel was right beside Tottenham and Hackney when this all kicked off.

Oh well, at least I'll get some pretty pictures of burnt out buildings :pac:

The police should of being using heavy handed tactics from the first night.

I think something went wrong with your keyboard there^ but Yes, the police should have used heavy handed tactics from day one, they (the police) pussy footed for too long, and they were far too small in number to react properly, 'however' the riots did take everybody (including the police) by surprise. Thankfully the influx of an extra 10,000 police on day three of the riots seems to have kept a lid on the situation in London.
The other English cities seem to be suffering from copycat riots arson & looting.

I read elswhere that they were being tracked by police helicopter, although I've no confirmation at all.

There was a guy on the radio yesterday who was former commader of the flying squad in england, he said it would be a disaster for the police to try & go in & begin arrests as it would take at least two officers to arrest one guy, then you see quickly massive assults on the police as they were spread out individually trying to arrest.

He went on to say that the police had learned from broadwater riots that when they escalate to this scale all they can do is try to contain them & make the arrest later on their terms, he said that the police did not have the go ahead to use water canons without high level permission.

It would appear the heirarchy of the police & politicians are the ones who dithered on this, not the ordinary guys on the ground.

These are the first serious riots in Britain since the 80s. Drop housing and benefits for this lot, and see how that improves things.

'This' is only a symptom. The problem is elsewhere.
