This isn't going to end well. If they keep starting fires in buildings somebody innocent is going to die.

Re: blackberry messenger...Not like they couldn't do it with a load of texts anyhow.

Say what you like about the criminality and opportunistic trainer shopping, but this could well be one of those moments of societal breakdown with a huge groundswell that grows and grows...the anger against the police, right or wrong is palpable...corporate franchises being looted could also be seen as sticking it to "the man"...the bonus being some new threads...not trying to justify it, but I'm certainly not going to dismiss it as mere thuggery with materialistic motives.

    SOME people

True it's some people, a minority.

I was making the point that the people from this area can't blame "lack of facilities/opportunities".

On the scale of Urban deprivation it is a paradise compared to many parts of The US, Europe, etc.

It is, and the fire brigade can't come close because they'll just be attacked.
And since the cops aren't doing anything...

On second though, maybe they should send in the fire brigade and wash the scum away.

The media should be blacked out until things are brought under control. I'd say the attention this is getting worldwide is a driving force behind the continued violence. And for all anyone knows, there's a group of people sitting in watching TV and giving the heads up to those on the street.

The idea that the black London criminal underclass is anti-materialistic anti-capitalists would be a be misleading. In mostly middle class Bristol, a few angry hippies rioted over the very existence of a Tesco chain. They didn't loot it.

In any case the real rioters should be the middle income groups. The idea that the eternal underclasses are oppressed by capitalism or work is nonsense. They are molly coddled by socialism. They dont touch work. If they make money it is criminal entrepreneurialism. Technically are petit-bourgreois criminals.

Back in Birmingham, reports suggest people are smashing windows on a street between the Bullring Shopping Centre and the West Midlands Police HQ.

    Sky are covering Mare Street.

Anyway of watching coverage on line, the advertised live coverage on the bbc website, is infact recorded coverage on a loop.

Sky.com keeps telling me to download silverlight or what ever its called. I assume you also have to be a sky customer.

Id say call in the army with a load of tanks and APCs. Either that or its time the Police used much more force and started firing rubber bullets and water cannons. That will disperse them. Scumbags just looking for a reason to cause trouble and to take the opportunity to steal from shops etc.

    Silverlight is a Microsoft product.
Its used for interactive features sometimes as well as video streaming.
(Will become less needed when HTML5 becomes more available to the public soon)

Second Sky News link at the bottom of the page works. You need to disable Ad Blocker.

Just full screen the coverage in the box on the left hand side. They usually don't have the live feed on the main page. But they do this time. No need to download silver light.
