No matter what extraordinary emergency action is taken, tragically, gunfire seems inevitable

Bring out the army and just shoot them. Don't bother with rubber bullets. Use live ammo. That will sort out these scum

While I agree with the sentiment - just one injury of a child and lord knows the twats will use it as a further excuse to rally around and cause more trouble.

Its an impossible situation for the legal authorities.

These scumbags don't need an excuse at all. It should be up to the parents and the rioters themselves not to be in harms way. Give them due warning and let them reap the consequences.

You just can't start shooting. That will exacerbate things completely.

But that only went from Pudding Lane to Pie Corner.

Ironic that this one started in Greggs.

The emotional side of me does agree with you, the thinking practically side, is a bit more reluctant.
Maybe water cannons (if they get there in time) might be a better option.

I`m sure they used to wish they could do the same up north when the their army and police were being bombed and shot. Experience shows that kind of thing makes these situations much worse

Their not firing on them. Public disorder control is all. No Constitution in place and the queen still retains some power that is rarely used. How far can this be let go. This could very easily spread right across the UK unless it is stopped very soon.

The only times I can think of the army being on the streets is for anti terrorist stuff, a parade, or during a bin strike a looong time ago. Pretty serious for a western nation to deploy their full time military force against their own citizens, which is why NI required special orders to make it possible.

Makes that Dublin riot look utter rubbish now.

They looked utter rubbish then. Basically a bunch of bored scumbags looking for an excuse to wear their Celtic jerseys.

The emotional side of me feels for the people who are losing their homes, property and businesses. :(

Does anybody know how bad things will have to get before the army are brought in?

Seems like the police are becoming a bit over stretched, with it breaking out all over London now.

Just wondering when theyll call in the PSNI, the most experienced police force in the UK when it comes to dealing with rioters.

Cue "What you boys need is a bit of Belfast efficiency" sketch.

I'd wouldn't be surprised if senior PSNI officers were not on their way and possibly if this keeps going a few hundred members of the Army based on NI.
They being used to this sort of thing.

I'm surprised somebody hasn't taken a pot shot at the police in order to see what their reaction will be .

Alan McCabe who is Irish and a landlord in Croyden was the man interviewed earlier on bbc news and so extreamly angry and shocked at what he was seeing

People aren't doing this because they're largely illiterate, they're doing it because they're scum.

It has to get pretty bad. Like, really ****ing bad. Couple of steps between the current situation and bringing in the army.

It is, generally speaking, a really bad idea to deploy your armed forces against your populace.

Fúck sake like, didn't we all criticise China and all the Middle East countries for doing this?

Yes we did, but that was different. They were suppressing legitimate political protest. These are just mindless thugs who want free flatscreens and tracksuits.
