Fair enough, I disagree with you though. Police sadly in a no win situation, look at past disturbances, they are attacked whatever they do, whether it be for reaction too hard or not hard enough.

At this point it'll only be the proper looney left who criticise them tbh. The locals are giving out, community workers are calling the scumbags "evil" etc., houses are being burnt out. Other than that asian woman who's always on Newsnight they'd find it hard to find someone to go on Newsnight because the rest would be busy founding and splitting a few Socialist parties every night.

I can't believe how many people don't realize the army cannot be called in against one's own citizens except in absolutely extreme situations (if this happened for a month in a row then perhaps). The UK is not Syria or Iraq. Man..!

Let's call a spade a spade: There are a lot more black people than white people ACTIVELY rioting on the streets.

Most of the white people are just spectating and / or taking pictures.

Of course it's stupid to say they are ALL black people, but it's clear that there's a disproportionate number of black people that are ACTIVELY rioting and looting

Sky have a black presenter tonite? Is she a regular?Every image I watch has a majority of black people ..now this could well be sky or youtube...there could be a huge backlash against immigration in the UK..?

Or may be that is what you have unconsciuosly conditioned your mind to percieve and see...I have seen a mix of all races- white, mixed race, black and asian.

I don't know what you mean by backlash against immigration. Most of these folks are British citizens including the guy that was killed by the police....its cretainly an internal failure largely due to lack of cordial community-police relations rather than an immigration problem.

Give a final warning, get home or pay the consequences, get the f'in Army in and if you've ignored the final warning... then you're in the sh*t.

I can understand what is happening. Its seems to me a knee-jerk reaction to everything that has happened with the banks in the past number of years. People are annoyed as fcuk having to suffer for things that are not their responsibility. Lack of money and jobs will will eventually wear people down.

I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with it. You think these people get angry watching Bloomberg??

Surprised they have not ordered mobile operators to disable some of their masts in the areas affected.

23.10 West Ham Carling Cup match against Aldershot tomorrow has been postponed at the request of the police, BBC reports.

    Football matches are now postponed.

    Will that cause more rioting?

Just seen that as well. West ham V Aldershot tomorrow night postponed (E London), and talk of the England international being canceled on Wednesday night (N London).

It's not even that, the cops are helpless right now...any clashes with police tonight and in the future are purely for distraction while looting happens elsewhere. They can't do a ****ing thing and the more helpless they appear the more people will start to riot and loot.

In Leeds they've confirmed they won't stop looting, they'll just prosecute later. I dunno, I'd prefer if the cops didn't bend over immediately.

True, which is why I really hope people back the police for once.

It's hard to know what the f*ck is happening watching Sky.
They keep showing the same burning building with no fire brigade there and don't seem to be reporting what, if anything, is currently happening.

Can't do that, many people have mobiles not landlines. How are residents supposed to contact emergency services etc?

Me too, but what can they do? You can't arrest and move 300 people. If they move against them in one place the rioters and looters just break up, run, regroup and then hit somewhere else.

    This is some Vietnam ****.

What's going on now could easily be called "terrorism" in the UK and the army could be deployed immediately.

The civil police don't have a handle on this, I'd say military presence will be on the streets during the course of tomorrow.

Well, i've been watching news most of the evening and have seen plenty of whites, mix-raced and entirely covered rioters.
But that's not the point. The point is the attempt of some here to imply that because, in their view, the rioters are black, this is the main aspect of this and that it reflects on all black people.
I'm white and i don't feel that i'm responsible for those who rioted in Northern Ireland recently or in the countless other riots that have occured.

I don't believe anyone is saying these riots reflect the views of all black people at all. Only the mindless few, who feel they are somehow doing a great service to the memory of the murdered man involved.

However, it is naive to say there is no racial aspect to this at all. Would you say the same about the Rodney King riots? Again, those riots were carried out by a largely African American contingent too?

Just thinking, if something like this happened in the North over a few days like this, there would be bodies piling up on the streets.

Declare Martial Law and lets be done with it. The army will have to go in.

Also, apparently there is nothing happening at Birmingham Children's hospital.
