You do agree that those out on the streets looting their own communities are scumbags though, right?

Without a shadow of doubt ,they should be left out on the streets when this is over ,let them see what they've done.
Its people saying that if they grew up in bad areas ,they'd be a scumbag??? .

So if we bring it back to Moyross or Ballymun in the day, is it not our collective failure as a society that places with no hope exist?

I'm not defending their actions here.. I just think that it's a problem of inequality and too many people would rather shout scumbag than actually begin to think of why they're a scumbag.
Ah yes, the well known racism in Ireland against white Irish people. That explains that then.

At this stage there is no option but physical violence. Yes there is not enough police thats why the army need to be send in and use tanks to round up the scum, they can throw all the petrol bombs and bricks they want and it will do no good.

They also need to get the water cannon over there asap.

Every member of the Army has seen combat in the last two years. They have been fighting for their life. The last thing you want to do is send them into a violent situation as their only training is to fire back. That gets you another bloody sunday

I'm starting to think that that is what the subhumans need. Does society need people like this?

Who gives a damn if they fire back, that's what's needed. Id think more about killing a fly than a lot of them s**t heads destroying london.

It's blatantly not their fault though.. I would be a complete and utter scumbag if I was born in a shlthole. I can admit it unlike the masses.

Being born in a bad area is not an excuse for being a scumbag. Plenty of good people come out of these areas.

What about Keith Earls who came from Moyross, a role model for all kids playing rugby.

If you think you would be a scumbag I think the problem lies more with you than where you'd be raised.

For much of the looting, then yes it does appear to be the black (afro-Caribbean) community, but if you look at the hardcore rioting, police antagonising, there are as many white faces as every other colour.

The UK doesn't even have enough prison space for criminals and that was even before any of this started.

Then you need to look closer. Your own prejudices are making you see what you want to see, so tells me enough about you

I've been an onlooker on this thread because the images of London have left me lost for words. I have often wished that I lived in the UK to be closer to friends and family and because frankly it's a damn site friendlier than where I am now. There are a couple of reasons I would not live in the UK- Benefits and the NHS. Benefits are doled out to people for very flimsy reasons like having too many children or a drug problem and the NHS stops people from taking responsibility for their own health and wellbeing- all of the costs are all but invisible to them

This means that social services are unable to perform basic duties and look after the welfare of children as there are simply too many to look after and the same people are having children that they can't cope with over and over and that A&E departments are completely swamped with people who drink too much, get into fights, contract STDs etc etc.

The funniest thing is that when a 16 year old girl who along with her parents has never worked a day in her life is walking down the road with her hood pulled up carrying a bag of looted Ipods shouting "These are our taxes!!" she believes it, because that's what British taxes are to her, something that she is entitled to.

It's only a matter of time before the same thing happens in Ireland, had to listen to a 19 year old cousin of my OH spouting the same shyte about not getting the dole she deserved because she was living at home. I felt like shouting at her that because her mother pays for food, bills and mortgage that she didn't deserve anything because all of her basic needs were looked after.

    The whole situation is horrific.

More immediately, the riots in Tottenham were spurred by the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Mark Duggan by police on 4 August 2011 during a planned arrest, in which one officer was injured. Friends and relatives of Duggan, an alleged cocaine dealer and member of the 'Star Gang', stated that he was unarmed. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) stated that a non-police-issue handgun was later recovered at the scene.

The shooting took place on the Ferry Lane bridge, next to Tottenham Hale station. Duggan's girlfriend told the Evening Standard that she was shocked to learn her boyfriend of 13 years was carrying a gun.
The incident was referred to the IPCC. This is standard practice whenever a member of the public dies as a result of police action. It is not yet known why police were attempting to arrest Duggan, but the IPCC said that the planned arrest was part of Operation Trident, a unit which investigates gun crime in London's black community to which Duggan belonged. Operation Trident specialises in shootings relating to the illegal drug trade.
After the shooting incident, the media widely reported that a bullet was found embedded in a police radio, implying Duggan fired on the police. An article in The Guardian alleged that preliminary ballistics tests on the bullet recovered from the police radio is consistent with those used by the police themselves.

There's a reason why there are quite a few black people involved in the riots.

Where is the tear gas, the water cannons? You'd think this was the first riot in the entire United Kingdom

A point the Afro-Caribbean community need to address it that the reason there are so many searches on young black people is because there are so many of them who carry knives and guns. And who do they use these weapons on? Generally the Afro-Caribbean population. Remember Damilola Taylor?

The police could stop all such searches tomorrow - but then there's be an epidemic of knife and gun murders, and the self-same community leaders would be on TV bleating about how the police aren't protecting them, and probably suggesting racist motives.

These people need to sort out their own - where the hell are all the parents of these kids? You can bet when the first one dies, they'll be all over the telly weeping and wailing about it.

Unfortunately, due to different policing methods introduced some time ago, political correctness gone mad, they were all got rid of. None in the country.

I disagree to a point- it's not where you're raised, it's how you're raised. These people are always the type to blame their circumstances, but what about the thousands of others who grew up around them who aren't out looting? And what makes these scumbags any different to private-schooled or "upper class" people who have gained money through corrupt means?? Just because those people don't wear a hoodie and throw chairs through windows doesn't make them any less scummy. Both types of people are robbing others basically.

It's about your values as a human being and knowing the difference between right and wrong, not about where you grew up.

Having said that- I agree an awful lot of these particular youths are probably living in areas that are low of facilities for young people so it would be good to have facilities provided for them to give them something to do and give them pride in their communities- cos as it stands, they obviously don't give a crap if the tear up the streets around them. Still doesn't excuse what they're doing though- they still have to know what they are doing is nothing short of disgraceful.

That video off the young lad being helped up and then mugged made me sick.

Really makes me despair for humanity.
