Hi folks, has anyone ever opened a bank account in the UK from Ireland (post, telephone, online?).

I am not resident in the UK, and this seems to be a bit of a stumbling block (tried RBS and HSBC websites).

I want to hold some of my savings in sterling (5-10k on flexible terms), but AIB told me that without a valid business reason they wouldnt open an FX hold account for me.

Try other Irish banks for a stg hold account. A hold account is for everyone but can be subject to min amount.

Lloyds Isle of Man should be able to help.

Make sure that you comply with Irish revenue rules.
