It's pointless railing against religion (in terms of belief, not of course complaining about abuse and such carried out by institutions) as most religious people won't be convinced by your arguments, and something else would replace it instead.

Too many people need a system to explain the world or a promise of immortality or mystery and wonder, or hold sincere religious beliefs for their own reasons for religion in some form or other to ever really disappear.

I don't get the retributive rage that seems to be prevalent when people talk about the criminal justice system. Brutalising prisoners reduces the state to the moral level of a sadist, does nothing to reintegrate prisoners back into society, and goes above and beyond even a simple desire to prevent further crime by the same person.

Also: I second the person who can't stand people who rant about how bad political correctness is. Political correctness is an effort to avoid causing needless offence by insensitive use of language; how is that a bad thing? Would it be better if we still had elected politicians referring to rivers of blood? Have we as a nation completely forgotten the casual anti-Irish racism that was common in the UK as recently as the 1980s?

Most people on social welfare aren't dole-scrounging layabout scum. We're three years into an economic meltdown caused by politicians who placed party over country, developers who mortgaged themselves to the hilt, and middle-class property speculators who became amateur landlords and worsened by a government who bailed out ruined banks, and who do we decide to turn on? The people at the bottom of the heap, who never got their hands on the benefits of the bubble while it was happening and are now being blamed for their laziness in not getting off their arses and getting out of the 14% of the population without a job.

Belief in nonsense science drives me nuts too. Homeopathy will not heal you. The MMR vaccine does not cause autism. Antioxidants don't make a damn bit of difference to your health. The Power Balance bracelet is a mountain of garbage. Vitamin C will not cure your cold. Gillian McKeith is a fraud.

With a bit of luck, that should trigger at least one hysterical denunciation.

everyone coming into the country should adapt to the irish way of life

only let skilled immigrants in and only if they have a job waiting, if they get sacked they have 3 months to find a job or go home

our borders should be almost entirely closed untill we get to less than 10% unemployment

all drugs should be legal and taxed

people who take heroin, cocaine, crack or meth should not be entitled to healthcare unless they can pay for it , and should not be entitled to social welfare.

Irish universitys should have mandatory interviews for places, especially when it comes to high importance jobs like healthcare.

Parents throwing money at children's education will only further divide the classes as only wealthy children get a good education, whilst some of the poorer yet intelligent kids are left out in the cold.

I think the government should scrap slave labour schemes like Fás/Solas Work Placement Programmes/National Internship Scheme and actually do something about trying to create jobs that actually provide people with an actual salary and career prospects instead of expecting them to work for free.
