Has anyone completed the Single Module Certification course in Mobile Application Design and Development? (link below)

    http://www.it-tallaght.ie/PartTimeCourses/Computing/Name,22647,en.html

I know it's a part of an M.Sc. course as well, so maybe those guys could help me out. I've emailed the Programme Leader, but sure, I may as well throw my questions up here.
    • What is the closing date for applications?
    • Is the €495 fee a flat figure across the board? I ask as I have already completed Level 8 and 9 courses, and would be subject to full fees for future courses at these levels.
    • Does this single module course allow for continuation to an ordinary degree, etc?
    • What level, if any, of development experience would be expected to get through this course?
    • Can you give me a rough idea of class times, if any sort of timetable has been drawn up?
Now, some of those are probably self-explanatory, but I was always pretty thick when it came to college admin stuff.

    • What is the closing date for applications?

None is listed but I would suggest that the earlier the better in terms of applications. Classes will start around the 19th Sept. or so depending on the module.

[*]Is the €495 fee a flat figure across the board? I ask as I have already completed Level 8 and 9 courses, and would be subject to full fees for future courses at these levels.

It is a flat fee as far as I am aware. In terms of fee credits for completed courses any part time course will be fee assessed seperately so will be at full charge as far as I am aware.
[*]Does this single module course allow for continuation to an ordinary degree, etc?

No - but it may earn you credits towards modules etc. Be aware though that it is a specialist course and the modules more so - any credits for L6/7/8 would be doubtful as it's a L9 course. I think it is worth being clear here - the single module certification means you sit any 1 of the listed modules and potentially get certified on that one modules. It is at Masters level so if you are looking to "continue" you should possibly look at modules on the degree programme?
[*]What level, if any, of development experience would be expected to get through this course?

You are expected to have a fairly good development knowledge from the L7/8 course in preperation for this. This course will build on that.
[*]Can you give me a rough idea of class times, if any sort of timetable has been drawn up?
Totally depends on the module you choose. It will either be a 6-8pm or 8-10pm class on Monday - Thursday.

    Hope this helps

I did it last year as part of the masters and it was interesting. It is aimed towards students who have a strong development background. It gives a decent overview of the mobile industry and mobile development in general. The class was split between those doing the software development based masters and those who had applied externally. There were 3 assessments. The first was a research paper based on the mobile industry. The second was a mobile website. The third was a mobile application. I think the external students got a certificate to confirm they had passed the module and the masters students got the credit as part of the course. I'm guessing it wouldn't count against a level 7 or a level 8 course but it would be 1 less subject you would have to do if you decide to do the masters.
