Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

CB Radio on a Bike

Hey guys I've just finished building a bike in the style of the legendary General Lee,and was toying with the idea of fitting it with a working mini CB radio.
My question is,can it be done?
I'm planning to mount the radio on the middle of the handlebars, and have a battery mounted under the saddle. Would it work? Would it be really expensive?

If anyone can help me out here Id appreciate it :)

Wasn't the General Lee a car? How do you build a bike in the style of a car? Buy a raleigh vektar. They had all sorts of gadgets onboard.

What about mounting a handheld CB radio with an auxiliary remote speaker mic plugged into it?

Coast guard use handheld Marine VHF as a full base station would require a large heavy battery and wiring. The ariel would also need to be positioned somewhere for reception and transmition.

    It can be done.
My neighbour did it on a Triumph 20, back in 1984.
Dont ask me how, we were 17 and I dont remember. I remember him dring round the estate talking on the thing ...
But best of luck with it.

Reminds me Im looking for a bell for my kids bike, anyone know of the old spring loaded bells, that gave a proper f'king ring to them and not the modern **** that does one short 'bringgg' and thats it.

IMO, the ultimate bell is a Pashley one. They are monstrously loud, but maybe a bit big for a kids bike.

Eurocycles might have one. Let me know if you have any success, I need one too.

Just saw this thread, I've a CB radio aerial with the co-axial lead and CB plug, the aerial is about 2 metres closed and extends to about 3.5 metres, it also has a fitting that might fit to a bicycle, it's yours for free if you want it.
