Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looking at google earth, that bit doesn't appear to be sea really more densely packed islands than anything else . . .so that probably has something to do with it?!

No, that chart is wrong and has been for a couple of months now. If you go to the Danish Met site you'll see the correct picture, and that cold pool is actually inverted, i.e. the coldest part in that chart is actually the warmest. I'm abroad now so don't have the Danish link at hand to post it.
