Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A couple of people were asking me about that IR shot of herbert park that's on the random photo thread. I figure it's been a while since we've had an IR thread ...

I shoot using film, but it's entirely possible to do this with digital as well. For my part, that shot was taken on Efke ir820 'Aura', a B&W film sensitized into the near infrared. It's called 'Aura' because it's lacking an anti-halation backing, which means that the highlights 'bloom' in a similar fashion to the older and discontinued Kodak HIE.

This, in combination with the IR transparency of the felt that covers 35mm canister openings, also means you have to load and unload in very subdued light. Preferably complete darkness. I have big light leaks along the first 8 shots or so because I neglected to do this.

Filtered using an Ilford SFX Cokin P filter, it's more very very dark red rather than a true IR cutoff. There are a whole range of filters you can buy that cutoff at different wavelengths, typically you want to match your filter to your film to some extent.

4 second exposures both of these original shots were. The stitched version is a bit clumsy because I didn't shoot them initially with that in mind, so you can see the seam if you look closely enough.
