Hey all, I know it's difficult enough to find employment in the current economic climate and all that, but I was just wondering if anyone else has any line of work they can recommend for those on here with heavy/noticeable modifications?

Several friends of mine, for example, work in call centers, and would recommend it because appearance is really no issue. One in particular has even been able to keep his stretched lobes and multiple facial piercings no problem due to only having to deal with the public over the phone.

What employment are you folks in that is permissive (if not even supportive) of your mods?

If you work for yourself it's grand :) Particular clothing shops, chugger work, tattoo and body piercing studios obviously. I've worked as a care assistant and no one has any issue with me, however it's a community setting and not a hospital setting. I've worked in other places where I've been asked/told to take them out, I've no issue with that, gotta do what ya gotta do for a jobbie

There's a few retail jobs that will allow them to a certain extent. So far I've been lucky in that any job I've had I've been allowed keep them in. Saying that I've only really been in retail. I'd always tone it down a bit for interviews though, as in take one or two out and put in my skin coloured plugs.

Try finding a career in the arts, if your field does not allow you to have visible tats or piercings it would be better to get stuff done in areas that obviously you wont show at work, for example: torso, above elbows, your legs and your back. When it comes to piercings you might need to get retainers for nose piercings, etc (clear retainers are the best choice or flesh colored). For more info go to <snip>

My hubby is a plumber and he works with a lot of guys who are quite heavily modded, from a work appearance POV none of the bosses care, once you get the work done they're happy. A lot of the guys do end up taking facial piercings and large plugs/tunnels out while they're working though, but that's more for a health and safety concern in case they get caught on something.

I work in a bank as a cashier and my boss doesn't have a problem with my tattoos or my stretched ears. In fairness my ears aren't very big, although I do tend to wear a lot of spirals etc so they're not exactly discreet. I worked with a guy who had heavily tattooed arms, but he just wore a long sleeved shirt and kept the sleeves down while customers were in the branch. I suppose it all depends on whether you can cover up the tattoos or not.

A friend of mine works in a posh cocktail bar in town, and they make him take out his lip, tongue and eyebrow piercings but for some reason have no issue whatsoever with him having a massive peroxide blonde mohawk

i used to work in a photography shop..not gona name which one but they made me take out all my facial peircings and i could only wear studs in my ears - normally would be spirals , as u can tell it didnt work out ! Although they were fine with my tattoos! my two arms are almost covered and they didn't mind when i came in wearing a short sleave top! Strange but because they are colourfull maybe that was the reason!! :/

I've only ever worked in retail (mainly jeweled and accessories shops) and I've never had any problems with my tattoo's or piercings. In fact, one boss actively encouraged me to get my lip repierced as customers would think i knew more about certain stock (body jewelery) since i had visable piercings.

I have a couple of jobs since im still in college, I worked in Argos at christmas they didnt care about any of my piercings, also work in a bar in a local stadium they have rules of no piercings but didnt enforce and currently working in a call center and they have no problem at all even went to the interview with all my piercings in (stretched 8mm ears, tragus and lip)

i worked in tesco once. had my eyebrow pierced at the time. they kept on at me that i couldn't keep it in when i was in work (there was no fudgin way i was taking it out for tesco, the bleeding thing woulda been closed up by the time i got home) which annoyed the crap out of me as there was a girl they always had up on the customer service with her eyebrow and lip pierced and i know they never hassled her about them. double standards creeps

IT?? Places where you don't deal with costumers directly is usually no problem from my experience.

    You'd think so, wouldn't ya?

SOME places insist on trousers/shirt/tie/shoes and are very strict about all these kinda things... >_<
