Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Remember to have the correct ITV regions saved in 'Other Channels' or it doesn't work.

Does anyone know if NorthWest region work?

Hmmm I might look/try again but I didn't have either ITV 1 SD/HD.... but I did put in the East Anglia card first so perhaps a power cycle is needed and start over.

OK - Anglia region uses an encrypted version of ITV SD/HD so they can't be added and viewed. My bad on the London card - it gave me ITV SD (I'd not added it to "other channels"), but whatever combination I try, ITV HD won't appear on the EPG. Not to worry though - at least I can still watch it in "other channels". Still I have BBC1 Lon/BBC 2 Eng/ITV1-4 /Ch5/BBC News. Not too bad considering!

There's a few ITV HD'S when you try a tune them in, try tune all of them in.

    Hi all.
Just came across this thread and find it really interesting.
I have UTV and Channel 5 set up as other channels and obviously this means I cant record anything ....but would really love to have that facility.
I know that what Im asking here has already been answered in previous replies but Im going to be a pain and ask again!!
I have 2 Sky+ boxes for different rooms in the house but since I got Sky installed I have never had either box plugged into the phone line.
If I do go down the route of what the other posts suggest does this mean I would have to apply for 2 UK FTV cards?
If I did get them do you think by ringing Sky to get them activated I will just be highlighting the fact that I dont have the boxes connected to a phone line?
Also just a bit confused as to what exactly you end up with if all went well....are these extra channels just inserted into the channell list?
    Thanks!!

If you own 2 boxes with irish subscriptions cards you need temporarily 1 UK FTV card for playing the game as describt in this thread. A UK FTV card doesn't need to be married to a box for working. Only for the first time activation you need to give sky the details for a box. After that the card is working in every sky box. Beside that for a FTV card there is no phone line needed.

Can anyone confirm getting this to work on a Sky+ box, I got it working on 3 HD boxes no problem but can't get it to work on the Sky+ boxes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 484 ✭✭DigiDec

Doesn't work on a sky+ box, has to be a newer HD box.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13 dooleykk

This will work on all HD boxes, right? And all you need is to put in a UK FTV card one time? So I can borrow a card from someone who has one and give it back, and this should stick for me? Or if I plug the box out am I back to square one (default)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 484 ✭✭DigiDec

Doesn't work on the old Thomson HD boxes and if you pull the plug you are back to defauld Irish EPG so you will need to go through the process again to get both Irish and UK EPG togather.

Thanks. So I need to get hold of a UK FTV card then, cheers.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 484 ✭✭DigiDec

Yeah, it would be easier to have your own one so you don't have to borrow one each time you need to repeat the process.

Thanks again. I know there was a thread on here about how people in the ROI can get their hands on a UK FTV card but I can't locate it now. Can anyone direct me to the link pls?

Go to the first post on page 1 of this thread, the link to that thread is there.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,877 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

I'm slow to close the thread. The number of Free-to-View on Sky (channels encrpyted by VideoGuard, but merely requiring a Sky viewing card of any description - including an expired one - to view) is down to Pick TV, 5*, and 5USA now (have I missed any?). Of these, Pick TV is available in ROI anyway to Sky subscribers. The main purpose of the FTV card scheme now seems to be to ensure Freesat from Sky viewers in the UK get the "right" EPG for their region. The channels themselves (with the exception of 5*/5USA) are available in ROI through manual tuning.

So really, the only channels these cards allow ROI viewers to view that they shouldn't be viewing, are 5* and 5USA.

Now despite this I'm open to further views as to whether this thread should be closed. I'd rather the OP had not linked to the thread I previously closed. I realise that I did not delete that thread.

But for now the ruling is this: there will be no further discussion on how to OBTAIN a FTV card in the ROI. The link in the OP will be deleted. This thread will be left here. It will not be stickied. Anyone who already has a FTV card will be free to discuss using this trick.

The issue about this thread isn't the obtaining of Sky FTV cards in ROI and what channels a FTV card will or won't give access to, but the ability to at least partially "merge" the UK Epg with the ROI Epg. As I previously posted, it is a little gem of a software glitch and I just think that the less publicity we give it from now on, the more chance we may have that it will get forgotten about and prevent the likes of TV3 etc complaining to Sky and forcing them to correct the software. If the thread was stickied or "hidden" in another thread, it would help.

That's an angle I cannot really look at it from. You're effectively asking me to stop debate on the basis "because Sky might find out". Chances are they already know.

There's no issue with the "trick" per se in my view, its a bug in Sky's software and its up to them to fix it.

What's banned is discussing ways of circumventing conditional access systems. The "trick" doesn't fall into this category. Discussing how to obtain FTV cards in ROI does. Hence why you can't discuss it here.

As usual, further moderation related correspondance should be via PM and not on thread.

Ok, point taken. Let the "trick" last as long as it will. I have a Humax Foxsat to fall back on anyway, it's just the novelty of having them on the Irish Sky Epg. Most people here who have FTV cards are using them in a second box, and have all these channels on a UK Epg anyway, so I suppose we're all fretting over nothing !

its not on the sky epg for ireland. (unless you have used the uk fta card trick and dont have a tompson box)

you can tune it in using the instructions on the sticky thread..

go to other channels on the sky epg.. (for a hd box services,9,5,select )

Is the "White Sky FTV Card" just a standard white Sky UK card or is it a special kind of card?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 484 ✭✭DigiDec

It looks the same as any sky card but is intened for people in the UK to buy so they can receive 3 or 4 extra channels that are free to view.

yes an ex sub uk card or one from the free to view scheme, they look exactly the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 703 ✭✭✭obliviousgrudge

So a standard UK subscription card will allow me to get Channel 5 on my EPG?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 484 ✭✭DigiDec

yes it should do as long as you also store Ch5 in other channels first and foolow the details given earlier in the thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 703 ✭✭✭obliviousgrudge

OK Cheers, so just to clarify 100%.

If I get a UK Sky sub card (from the regions mentioned) and follow the instructions it will work?

also, will the cards for sale on ebay work?

I have a London ftv card that isn't activated yet as I don't have a 'non contract' box to put it in. However, it still enables me to get the UK epg on my Sky HD box and so I can do the card swap thing to get the UK fta channels on my epg.

Even without activation, I'm able to get all of the above channels on my epg. Is there any advantage to activating the card? As far as I know, Channel 5 (which I'm not too interested in) wouldn't work anyway on a London ftv card.

For this trick the answer is no, however you will get a few extra channels once activated Pick TV, VIVA, Five * and Five USA and a few others.

Is anyone else having to enter their Pin Code every time they watch something recorded on Channel 5?

I haven't recorded any other of the 'new' channels yet but I did record Channel 5 and when I watch I have to enter pin code.

I don't have any parental controls set and I never have to do this for normal channels.

    Thanks in advance.

If you look at post # 2 in this thread, you will see that I wrote The only difference is that to watch a programme you have recorded on one of the 'extra' channels you have to enter your pin to watch.

It doesn't ask me to enter pin.

It asks for my normal 4 digit number which I have always had with my ROI Sky subscription.

BTW I don't have to enter the pin code for ITV1.
