The palava about the aprons is a bit annoying, all they need to say is your through to the next round.

Well they are a big thing for those who watched the 7 seasons of the bbc version.

Very poor standard compared to the English one though.

Probably, I've only seen an episode or two of the Ozzie version, which I've heard has a different format. The bar shouldn't be set by what another country's version has, but the pool they have to chose from. I'm not knocking the show, I've enjoyed watching it. But, there were a few I would have let in, who could do a bit more than burn water, that would have been entertaining - even if they were kicked off after an episode or too.

Havent read all the posts on here.

How come about 50% of the contestants are foreign? I guess the Irish amateurs didnt make it to the TV stages??

Eh I don't know, maybe because they live in ireland and were better cooks?

Entertaining show. Fine dining is a ridiculous pursuit though, it's hard for a show featuring it not to seem like a parody but the 2 experts are honest and fair. The 2 guys on the UK show now seem like parodies of themselves.

Yes. I had figured that out by the end of my post. Still, its worth noting the observation.

The judges are way too mean its hard to enjoy watching it.

    Poor Jackie... :(

    the judges are so ridiculous,

i feel really awkward watching the way they speak to the contestants,

    Was Nick Munier a cook?

  • Registered Users Posts: 43,881 ✭✭✭✭Basq

The judges are fairly harsh alright.. but I'm somewhat warming to Dylan McGrath. Not sure what to think of Nick Munier.

Felt bad for Jackie.. but if she didn't go, it would put the whole format into question IMO.

Enjoyed this episode more than the first two... I always prefer the cook-off stuff - it feels more authentic!

Yeah the judges have taken a leaf from the Gordon Ramsay playbook (crossing the cruelty line with some contestants).

I'm surprised they didn't go the whole hog and dramatically spit some food into a conveniently located bin beside the judging table.

Nick is doesn't seem confident enough for the show, he always gives his opinion after Dylan and just agrees with him. Both of them are not as likable as the UK judges but maybe they just need some more time to grow into the roles

Ah yes.. the "Joe Bastianich method" of criticism - quickly followed up a personal jibe and finishing with "you're not even fit for this world.. end it.. end it now!" :pac:

went to the same secondary school as bridin, was in her class in 1st and 2nd year. glad she got through to the next round :D felt sorry for the south african woman , she probably would have got through had she presented the food

She should of just dumped what she had onto a plate, would of taken no more than 10 seconds, at least that way should would of had a chance!

I agree it was difficult to watch in places... especially the man who cooked the salmon and the lady who couldn't plate. If they had just pulled back a little bit, it would have been fine.

The format is actually really similar to the Aussie version - with cuts to the contestants commenting on what they're doing as they do it, soppy music in places, tears etc.

The crying guy is the funniest LOL.

Personally I don't think they were too mean. I mean I know they had a go at Kevin, the guy who cooked the salmon with the chocolate sauces, but dear God, its one of the worst dishes I have ever seen on any series of masterchef, and I think it was the fact that he said he was happy with it that really set them off, if he just had have admitted that it was awful and overcooked he could have got a second chance.

Didn't understand why Jackie didn't plate up. Did she not hear them telling her it was time to do so. Felt sorry for the salmon guy. They were very hard on him and he looks like a cuddly grandad!
