missed beginning, did they choose what they were going to cook themselves, or were they told what dish they were cooking

They were given starter, main or dessert. But then allowed choose themselves.

Actually preferring this format to the british one...That tart-tatin didn't look appealing at all even though it got some great reviews.

Normal enough for a Chef, though he was using a wooden spoon which is strange. You should use a dessert spoon for tasting.

I would have an issue if it was salad dressing they were tasting, that isn't going to be cooked.

Dudes! No problem with the tasting. But putting the spoon back into the food

He should be mixing with one spoon and taste with another.
Or mix with one, taste with it and get rid of that spoon - not put it back into the food!!

He shouldn't be doing it on TV where he can be seen ;). I've worked in plenty of restaurants and kitchens over the years, there is an old adage that if you ever work in a kitchen you will never eat in the restaurant, but to be fair what you don't know won't hurt you. To be fair Mary is as bad with all her stuff on the floor.

Enjoying the show so far, I think Dylan McGrath is good, though I suspect if he could he would get rid of 4 or 5 others very quickly. Not too gone on Nick, not sure if he has a lot to offer the programme.

Does anyone know how long the show lasts and what the format is?

Must say Dylan McGrath is a surprise. I remember him on some other programme sometime back and I though he was so far up himself & a terrible pain in the butt but he's actually coming across as quite a pleasant individual.

Just catching up on thursdays show, is it not a bit early for this kind of challenge

Though maybe they get classes / instruction before the challenges

Enjoying the Irish format to the show which I didn't think I would.
Have to say the red-haired guy who keeps crying is a scream!
Enjoy both judges and think they are both fair.

Thought Jackie not plating up and falling to pieces, crying, get hugs from the girl beside her and crying again and again and again was a bit tooo much though !

Didn't understand why Jackie didn't plate up. Did she not hear them telling her it was time to do so. Felt sorry for the salmon guy. They were very hard on him and he looks like a cuddly grandad!

Just got around to watching both of last weeks episodes last night. Have to say i'd no sympathy for her. Have no idea how she didn't manage to hear the warnings when everyone else did.

Hang on a bloody minute here.... the sun was shining on those outdoor shots. Was this filmed last year?

It was filmed in June & July - on the few sunny days we had! And by an Irish company!

I know this cos as an avid watcher of both Masterchef UK and Masterchef Australia plus thinking I was a good cook, I applied for the show but didn't get to the audition stages. I now realise this was for the best cos the 16 that got those lovely aprons are waaaaay better than me!!

I'm not sure about the format though - it's like the new UK version on speed since they are getting rid of people very quickly...I mean 4 on the first proper night was a lot!

P.S. This is my 1st post on here - apologies for the irrelevance of some of my content :)
