Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sram cassette fitting

I need a little advice please.

I got my new Shimano RS80's in the post today and fitted a new Sram 1070 cassette to them. I was expecting to find a spacer with the cassette but there was none supplied with either the cassette or the wheels.

My older Aksiums have a 105 cassette and they have a spacer that fits on the freehub body before the cassette goes on.

Am I safe to stick the new wheels on the bike and hit the road? Or am I facing an imminent mechanical catastrophe?!

    Grateful for any advice!

The Mavic freehub requires the use of a spacer with Shimano/SRAM cassettes. A 10 speed Shimano freehub should be spacer free. I have Mavic Kysirium elite, spacer required, Planet X 10 speed, no spacer, Planet X 9 speed, spacer required, Shimano Tiagra freehub, no spacer required!

If the cassette is loose you should use a 1mm spacer.
The spacer is required when fitting a 10 sp cassette on a 9 sp freehub body.
This is why you used one on your older mavic wheels.
    Most bike shops have them.

Thanks for the prompt advice folks. The cassette is a good fit with no play, was keen to get reassurance before doing something stupid! Looking forward to trying out the new wheels.
