Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Call me a Hardy fan but I think that takedown cost Hardy both the Fight and his UFC career.

Wow. Did not see that coming. Then again, neither did Dan Hardy! :)

Why the fuk did Hardy go for the takedown!

Fair play to both of them, great fight and fantastic night of fights.

    Great choke!

Yeah, now that I think about it, Hardy peaked during his flirting with Bruce Buffer.

Delighted for Lytle. I really hope he doesn't retire, although I know he's already made up his mind! :(

Because he was 90 seconds from losing by decision.

I know he needed to try something different but I just couldn't see him getting the sub. He pushed the striking near the end, he should have just kept swinging. As much as I don't like Hardy, hope he doesn't get cut.

I tend to find these types of fights very boring these days. Mediocre boxing match with some token take down attempts. I think Hardy was criminally naive for attempting two such weak take down attempts against someone like Lyttle with a proven track record of taking submissions when they come. Like he got away with the first one just about, that should have been adequate warning.

No question about it, if they kept him on and he lost again, that would be five losses in a row on his record. He's a gonner.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

I think he reckoned he would either get the round for the successful takedown, which he probably would IMHO and hope the judges were watching porn or something else and gave him a 29-28.... or he might sneak a win with some ground and pound. Either way he needed to make something happen. Fair dues but he's ridiculously one dimensional in a UFC which is becoming stacked with talented young up and comers. Time to go IMHO.

This must be the first time, where two fighters fight in the main event and not return to the UFC. Hardy will be released and is off to BAMMA. Lytle, enjoy your retirement, you were an excellent fighter and a warrior.

Dana has given both Sub & FOTN to Lytle. KO to Cowboy!

    Nice retirement pressies for Lytle

Well Lorenzo just tweeted that Dan isn't going to be cut. I wonder who they're gonna put him against. Amir Sodallah maybe?

The weird thing is that the best fighter BAMMA has is Nate Marquart. And he fights at Hardy's weight class now. So Hardy is likely to come against a much tougher challenge in BAMMA that he has had in his last couple of fights in the UFC.

True but BAMMA are the most likely UK promotion to sign Hardy, if he gets released. He could end up in Bellator or MFC but I can't see it happening.

I should point out that Lorenzo has tweeted saying Hardy won't get released but I do find it hard to believe. Since he has lost 4 straight.

It was extremely boring, it was practically a boxing match. If you found that entertaining you should actually watch a proper boxing match, you'd love it. These are two second tier UFC guys at best, and if you ignore the crass commentary from the fool and joe rogan you'd realise that was 19 minutes of one guy throwing hay makers and body shots while another guy trying to catch him. The people that consider these fights FOT should stick to watching Rocky movies.

No disrespect to Lyttle neither, he can do everything just decides to fight this way because he knows it leads to big $ bonuses. One thing for sure I'll never watch that fight again.

    quote from wiki:

Hardy is expected to face Chris Lytle on August 14, 2011 at UFC on Versus 5. Dan has stated that he has changed his training going into this fight, moving to Las Vegas to train at the skate park with Bam Margera to work on his grappling, particulary his wrestling defense/offense.

    ha ha! :D

It would be a huge break with Bellator's usualy policy. I can't remember the last UFC castoff they signed. Roger Huerta maybe? I doubt Dan Hardy would be top of their list.

BAMMA is actually gaining a bit of traction now though, Andre Winner recently signed with them. It would probably be the best move Hardy could make.

Belator were in talks with Nate but never came to an agreement. I really doubt they could pay his wages TBH.

The natural place for Hardy to go would be BAMMA. He's very high profile in the UK. People would pack arenas to watch him fight no matter who it was against (Ricky Hatton style).

A valid point well made. I tip my cap to you.

How can a fight be judged FOTN when you could get up, go and get a drink and come back and it's exactly the way you left it.

Highly predictable and formulaic fight. Hardy, the 'more technical fighter' tries to pick at the 'slugger' Lyttle. The technical striker isn't actually extremely technical neither. Very little clinch and the only take down attempts were hardy's paltry efforts. On both attempts hardy basically put his head in the guillotine position.

With the exception of one or two times that Hardy caught Lyttle and went chasing the finish there was no change in tempo to the fight, no change in levels or changes in strategy. The fight practically ended the way it began and didn't show one thing novel, innovative or particularly interesting.

Anyone that found that fight entertaining probably has been watching ufc for 3 years and thinks fedor is a fraud, lesnar is the uncrowned king and joe rogan is the coolest man alive.

No they were awesome fights in which you never knew how it would end. They were crescendo after crescendo with regular but unpredictable changes in pace, style and attitude. This fight was like the Marcus Davis fight and many others, monochrome. I guess if you like the colour grey you'd like it.

You're right! If 2 guys are on the ground transitioning and trying to sub each other and they're still doing the same when I come back from the fridge, it must therefore be a rubbish fight

Good man yourself. You've only made a handful of posts in the thread but you're already playing the "I know more about MMA than you guys" card. Congratulations!

The night started hours ago, some suberb fights, great submissions, total war between Henderson and Miller, Ludwig puts on a classic display, yet all you wanna do is be negative and beat your chest about how you think you've been watching "UFC" longer than everyone else.

Awesome! Oh wise one, please impress upon us more of your wisdom! We are but mere dry day fans compared to you!

Sid, we all like to see a good display of MIXED martial arts but the fact was Lytle wanted to finish with a bang and was looking for some amazing KO. Hardy was happy to oblige. FOTN was a fairwell present imo. I thought Miller Henderson was the real FOTN.

Don't fall into his trap of sh*te! Just because a fight might not contain elements of every martial art, doesn't make it any less of an entertaining fight.

Not a mention of any of the good fights on the card, just negative rubbish!

The better analogy would be one guy on top doing very little but throwing the odd 'short elbow'.

Not sure what that's got to do with anything.

So you are back tracking now and admitting that it wasn't FOTN material and it was just some sentimental gesture by the ufc?

I really don't know how people like you guys can make these kind of posts on message boards. You attack someone that disagrees with you, you then dismiss them as a trolling, then you actually backtrack and admit the person was actually correct but then complain they're ruining a perfectly good thread.

With time you'll learn to break away from the shackles of UFC propaganda and be able to judge fights on their merits not on their commentary. It's ok to call a mediocre fight mediocre and not be worried that you'll hurt Dana White's feelings or someone else will call you a 'blood thirsty neophyte'. The fight wasn't a great one, don't let them make you think you think it was just because one guy didn't defend any punches.

    Exactly my point

So you are back tracking now and admitting that it wasn't FOTN material and it was just some sentimental gesture by the ufc?
Maybe you need to start actually reading. Show me where I said it was FOTN material or a sentimental gesture. Go ahead! You'll be searching for quite a while.

Again, show me where I said that? If you're going to argue with someone, at least know what you're arguing about

Also, you attacked EVERYONE who disagreed with you as those who "have been watching UFC for 3 years" or whatever piece of sh*te it was you were spouting this time!
With time you'll learn to break away from the shackles of UFC propaganda and be able to judge fights on their merits not on their commentary.
It must be awesome to be the only one who is able to watch a fight and judge it for the actual fighting going on! Wow! Can you teach us? I must admit, whenever i'm at a show I never really know what i'm watching in the absence of Goldberg and Rogan telling me if the fight is good or not

Thanks for that! My eyes are now open! I was worried Dana White would call me out on Twitter!
Are you getting paid by the ufc or something?

Nope. I watched a great night of fights and i've been here discussing them all night. You either watched just the Main event, or you watched all the fights and the only feeling you had about the entire card was that the Main Event was less exciting than you wanted. Either way, perhaps you should give up on watching MMA. It's obviously not the sport for you!
