Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Buying first bike: 2nd hand Trek 1400 v Trek 1.1, advice needed

Hi everyone, first post & looking for a bit of advice. Looking into buying my first bike since I was a kid, mostly for commuting but it'd be handy for cross-training as I'm doing some marathon running as well. I was just going to buy an entry level racer like the Trek 1.1 for just over 700euros but in the shop this evening & they had a second hand Trek 1400 racer on sale for 550euros, looks in good condition & they said it's about 4 years old - apparently a much better bike. Maybe I got the wrong model but I did a quick bit of online research & the Trek 1400 model seems to have been discontinued in the early 2000s so quite old if that's right!
Just wondering what anyone thinks is my best option for the purchase, even if the Trek 1400 is that old, would wear & tear be a huge issue? Is a old Trek 1400 way ahead in quality compared to a new Trek 1.1. There was also a new Specialised racer in the store in the same price range as the Trek 1.1. I'm drawn to the older 1400 but I've no knowledge in this area. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm going back into the shop in the morning to make a decision. Thanks
