Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have put 3/4 bag nitrogen on old pasture after grazing it off. It is now closed off. How long (time limit) will the nitrogen boost the grass if it is not grazed, ie when will the nitrogen stop boosting the grass.

It looks like I will need to graze the field after 3 weeks, expect cattle to be there for a week ie 4 weeks after applying nitrogen, will the nitrogen be of any benefit after the cattle have the field grazed

Nitrogen has 46 units which will take a day per two units for the ground to absorb it so 23 days, maybe a lower take up rate at this time of year also.

It also depends on other factors such as the mean temperature and the rainfall pattern after application. 3 weeks would be the norm- unless you get abnormally low rainfall- in which case it might be necessary to extend this to 4 or even 5 weeks.

Nitrogen as in 27% AN or 46%urea or something else? considering you are talking about an old pasture i would be using the figure of one unit a day during ideal conditions

    Its 27% nitrogen

Does the reference to 1 unit per day equate to 27 days?

yip you would be right, considering old pasture wouldnt have the same demand as a new ley

If it is 3/4 bag on CAN per acre I reckon it will all be gone by the time the cattle leave the field (28days) the next time round.

3/4 bag of 27% N is about 20 units. In Spring in rapid growth grass takes up 2 units/day. This time of year depending on weather I guess it will take up 1 unit per day, Your bag N will be probably be gone in 20 days approx. Hope this helps

Wouldn't agree atall. It depends on whether he has stock to graze the growth. Admit response much better in Spring.

Grass growing very well at present.

Growth will depend on how bare the field was before spreading - and other factors. Ryegrass gives best return esp new reseeds.

There will be some after effects ( but declining) after 28 days.

N spreading should cease around Sept 15.
