So this fantastic IPA was a nice 5.9% with a real kick, now following Budweiser's purchase of the brewery its a not so great 4.3% ...

Goose Island IPA is now 4.3%??

    Seriously???

Not that ABV means a whole lot but they must have drastically changed the recipe!!
I've a bottle in the fridge, I better cherish it if this is true!!

    Edit: Are you sure?!!!

Where did you get the bottles?

I got one in drinkstore this evening at its still 5.9%!!

Edit: I dont mean to be so doubtful!!! Its just a great IPA, one I regularly enjoy!!

got them in Lilac Wines in Fairview.

You can see by the time on this post I am up really early, wouldn't normally happen with the higher strength bottle :)

but seriously, the watering down of this beer (for the mass market) is a terrible move for beer lovers - damn you Anheuser-Busch

What do you mean by an average of 4.3%? What does it say on the label(s)?

And are you sure it's not Goose Island Honkers Ale or something, because I would imagine a change like that would throw up more than this thread on a google search.

Cant find a reference of this anywhere online.

Even Beeradvocate has reviews up from today from guys in the states and theres no mention of any change in abv..

    Strange!

Silly question... but what colour is the bottle?!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,628 ✭✭✭themandan6611

its the usual green label - India Pale Ale

Any chance of a pic of the bottle?

Does it actually say 4.3%ABV on it? If not it might be ABW on your bottle.

I'm intrigued by this. Doesn't seem to add up.

I absolutely adore Goose Island IPA, and I'd very disappointed if they changed the recipe.

Does the bottle look like the one on the left or the right?

It seems a small number of bottles have the honkers back label on them by mistake.

But the back label on the Honkers is red.

So are you saying that the IPA you had, had a Green label on the front and a Red label on the back? Surely if you've been drinking it for long enough you would've noticed?

to be fair we are normally admiring the quality of the ale rather than the label on the back :D
