Currently I have the spreadsheet generating the following statistics

    Mean points achieved in Mock
    Mean points achieved in Exam
    Mean numerical change in points
    Mean percentage change in points
Standard deviation in change in points
    Largest increase in points
    Largest decrease in points
Most common trend (Increase, Decrease or No Change)

Anything i'm missing? I'd say that's about all the useful information that can be gotten out of a survey like this but if anyone has any suggestions i'm all ears.

Going to add mine in a min (they're from 07, hope they're still ok).

I had a decrease of 5 points between mocks and actual LC.

Mainly increases so far (which I guess is to be expected). Thankfully the decreases don't appear to be overly severe.

Well done to whoever went from mock 110 to actual 335! A 204.5% increase is bloody brilliant.

So far it's a very skewed sample... the mean actual LC points is 505, which is high. You probably won't get a very representative sample from users of this forum tbh.

Cool idea. I'll add mine next week!

I'm probably very wrong about this, but isn't it impossible to get 595, as somebody has increased their points to?

How did somebody go from 400 to 300 :|

There are a lot of variables at work here.
    • If your mocks were from the usual mock companies, there is no guarantee they were set to a Leaving Cert. standard.
    • The marking of the mocks is well known to be in many cases a bit suss.
    • The effort someone put in to each set of exams could vary greatly.
    • It's possible some schools had not completed the courses by the time the mocks were scheduled.

The bottom line is that all things being equal, candidates get what they deserve. Those who worked, read the question carefully and answered the questions will do well. Those who chanced their arm, learned off pre-prepared answers and tried to jam them into the questions asked will be relying on good luck to favour them.

^^ Agreed. It'll still be interesting to see though.

    Great idea!

The decreases are scaring me though :S Did those of you who got large decreases just panic for the actual LC?

Or perhaps some sought out hints for the mocks?

I got a large decrease - it definitely wasn't to do with panic, I think it's partly because I knew some of the questions that were coming up for the mocks (:o) and because I scored much higher than I needed for my courses, I 'relaxed' a bit too much in the run up to the actual thing.

I put in mine from 2007. Definitely were going for the scare tactics that mocks company, I KNEW I could do better than the mocks by a long shot- increased by 140 points and English went from a C1 to A1. And I didn't drastically increase in brainpower either.

    I've removed the invalid entry.

Sorry for the delay, i've been a bit busy.

Edit: I'm surprised at how large some of the increases are. Someone went up 225 points or in other words 204.5%! Very impressive.

    Adding in my entry now.

I'm going to appeal two subjects and hopefully at least get a no change if not an increase.
