Aw man! I asked about getting the black but was advised that they'd only price match on the Blue/White. If anyone is about to order and doesn't have a preference (or prefers the blue/white) and is down my way (Cork) would you mind getting the black and doing a swapsies ;)

Are your DUNS being put through some sort of delay pedal there or was there just a lot of natural reverb in the room when they were being recorded?

I will agree though that the OP's original DOOOONNN just doesn't sound right to my ears...

I hadn't put a whole load of thought into it but you're stuck with it now b1tches:D

no price promise for me :(

    god loves a trier

they just would not match the price promise. They kept saying best buy is not an authorized dealer of garmin despite there being no offical list of UK dealers available. So that argument is fairly invalid.

The fact a few people were already matched didnt swing it for me and they used an excuse that Best Buy is a catalog store and they do not match catalog stores etc etc.

So i told them to evaluate their terms and conditions and state that catalog stores are not supported.

i think you lot that got the deal are very lucky :)

I just have to wait for my buddy to pick one up in best buy and send it over :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,508 ✭✭✭Lemag

Ring them up and whilst talking to the sales assistant email him this link from Garmin's own website. They can't throw the 'Authorised Dealer' crap at you then. After this works chance your arm at getting a discount code for the Black one and do a swapsie with me ;)

It might also be worth your while to visit fatcheese to see if this is still going
You can 3% cashback on fatcheese too, for anyone that hasn't ordered.
It'd cover the cost of postage for send that lovely Black Garmin to me ;)

Btw, I dropped a couple of very subtle hints in there.

no price promise for me either on the Garmin from Evans,

Unfortunately we have been unable to match the price of £99.97 on the Garmin Edge 500 GPS Enabled Computer at http://www.bestbuy.co.uk/product/1000114326/Garmin-Edge-500.aspx?ref=google&loc=BicycleParts%26Accessories&ci_src=18615224&ci_sku=1000114326.

    The reason(s) for this are:

Unfortunately the competitor does not have the GPS available for purchase, they are showing that is not available for home delivery and they do not seem to have stock of this in their stores. Please note for us to price match, products must be in stock with us and the competitor.

I have mailed Bestbuy to confirm that they have stock and will be calling Evans.

Seems there are different reasons for rejection.

It's showing as available now. Ring them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭Home:Ballyhoura

Another successful price match on the Garmin Edge 500 thanks! I said I found it on a Garmin authorised dealer's webpage, then said Best Buy so there was no issues over that. Then the only thing was with regard to the delivery/collection, I said it was available for immediate collection. Then he said, but not available for delivery or collection, to which I said that it says in the terms of their price match policy that it only has to be delivery or collection and my price match was accepted. £99.97 and I managed to get the black one of them too, happy days thanks in advance guys. Now on the lookout for heart rate and cadence upgrades!! :)

If they're making up excuses as they go along you can always mutter about complaining to the ASA :D

+1, only way is to ring them. I had 2 price match requests rejected online, 2 follow up emails which weren't responded to. On the phone seems to work, and I could hear another Evans phone operator in the background saying, the total of your order will be £99.97 so I wasn't the only one getting a price match!!

With some many apparently using the price match with Evans it could be a while yet before Best Buy run out of stock. For their own sake, Evans probably ought to withdraw them from stock.

yes yes and double yea !!!!!!

and I was even offered the black one by default !! didnt even have to beg.

fair is fair :) swapsie it is so my good man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 272 ✭✭Dinging

just got sorted also. Phone call to Evans did the trick. In fact they gave me 2discount codes. Order mine via fatcheese.ie and one of the lads in work used the other.

    Thanks OP.

I couldn't go through fatcheese in the end. The girl I was talking to made a big hullaballoo about the people that do the price checks work in a different department, and it would be at least tomorrow till I got the code etc etc, so i just ordered over the phone.

Can't wait to get it now! Need to get the HR and cadence meters next :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 709 ✭✭✭ray o

Just got mine sorted there too. The girl said she couldn't give a code for the website so I just ordered over the phone. Got the black one....gift. Thanks to all who posted about this one.

Pretty good although not as good as myspokes.co.uk who are selling it for £73.97. However, wierdly, I have in my shopping basket for just £61.64 (is this -VAT:confused:)

Damn this thread. Seriously tempted to go for a Giro Prolight. My Bell Array is fine but hard to resist at almost half the price of CRC

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,295 ✭✭✭ckeego

Delighted for Lemag that you got sorted with a black one...

Those of you anywhere a Hollingsworth (Templeogue and Kilmacud) should note they have the Vacansoleil 2011 shirt for half price at €35..

Probably reduced as the anti FranceTV Tour car defence shield was faulty..Ask Johnny Hoogerland..Pretty robust gear all the same!!

    The reason(s) for this are:

We can only match prices of authorised UK retailers. bestbuy.co.uk is not an authorised retailer of Garmin products.

If you would like us to price match a different colour or size (if applicable), or a different product please feel free to submit another Price Promise request. If you have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact us or call us on +44 (0)1293 574900.

    Kinds Regards,

    Evans Cycles

I just received this email from them!

If you read back through the thread you'll see that Evans Cycles have used this BS excuse already. This link is from the Garmin Great Britain site and links to 'Best Buy'.

I have one. Very light but about as comfortable as a cheese grater. If you are a baldy git like me, you can look forward to coming home from spins with a nice wavy pattern imprinted on your bonce. You get used to it though;)

Edit - they're pretty ugly too

Most of those posts were explanitory (for the benefit of those who hadn't fully read the previous posts, I guess) but the thread will still be here when the Garmin offer is no longer available. It is likely that now and then a particular bargain will dominate the thread. Why not post up some other bargain alert yourself to distract from the aforementioned Garmin one?

Well said!! I put up the Vacansoleil offer!!:)

I also still think if you ring Evans, they MAY still pricematch!!;)

I also got my Edge 500 in Black:D

So damn this thread but thank you ednwireland for bringing this bargain to my attention ;)

Hehe. That's pretty reasonable to be fair. They should only be expected to compete on a like-for-like basis. You couldn't expect a bike shop to compete with a non-bike retailer who order in 50 times the amount of stock they do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,131 ✭✭✭Bambaata

Evans are only happy to price match when they have the advantage over smaller cycling shops of ordering 50 times the stock?

This which has seen about 300kms so there should be plenty of battery life left. The one which is new and still in its box is O_Synce and it's the Marco series. There are a few different ones within that series but I can't be more specific just yet as I'm don't have it to hand right now.

I'm not surprised. I brought the Garmin to the attention of posters here. I then mention that I'll be looking to sell my other computers and a couple jump in to compete with me with their now unneeded computers
giro prolight helmets £79.99 + shippping
Cheers ednwireland. Went for it last night. I was too late to get the black or black/red so had to settle for the less desirable black/blue. Still, I won't see it when it's on my head.
