Would someone recommend if the below is a good offer?

    http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_912131_langId_-1_categoryId_212377

And also, what size would be right for someone who is 5'9?

Just ordered a set of these (Shimano hub) for under €350 - way cheaper than anywhere else I could find, even after you add the shipping costs...

    http://www.skiperfo.com/roues-route-mavic-ksyrium-elite-s-2013,fr,4,mavic_ksyrium_elite.cfm

Think the deal is only for this week, but they might just be saying that.

Looks like a good deal. I might get these as an upgrade to my Mavic Aksium wheels. Is there a way of chaging the translation in French to English on the website. Also would these include the cassette or is it just the wheels.

You can use Google Translate to translate the page to English. It's not perfect but good enough to figure out whats going on. I don't think cassette or tyres are included in the price. Here's a translation of the text below the pic:

DESCRIPTION:True to its reputation as an integration of advanced technologies usually reserved for the high-end models, the Ksyrium Elite goes even further and makes weight gains that very few wheels have managed to reach. This level of performance is further improved by the use of new lightweight tires Yksion Pro.
    FEATURES:
    Material: Maxtal
Colour: double anodization, black rim, silver ISM
Height: prior to 22 mm, 25 mm asymmetrical rear
    Fitting: SUP
    Drilling: Fore
    Braking surface: UB Control
    Relief: ISM
The valve hole diameter: 6.5 mm
    Tyre: comes without tires
    ETRTO size: 622 x 15 c
Recommended tire dimensions: 19 to 32 mm
    WEIGHT:1520 g pair

No worries - I sent them a quick question to verify the hubs were Shimano and they confirmed back to me before I ordered.

Anybody got a CRC code they won't be using??

just so you know folks those mavic wheels are 2012 and not 2013. Which means probably very little at the end of the day.

2013 wheels will come with mavic tires and the hub has a slightly different colour - not all black.

yeah - i have been looking at buying them for a while :)

Copped they weren't the 2013 ones - but thanks for the heads-up anyways. But there seems to be little difference between the years as you say. Biggest difference I can see is the lack of tires with these ones. But even after buying your own tires the savings are worth it.

Update: I've just received an email saying my order has been shipped. Woo hoo - nothing better than knowing some bling is on the way! :)

sugar. Will these wheels take 700 by 23 road racing tyres. It states 622 on the spec.

622 is 700C. Different names for the same standard. So they'll be fine.

Thanks for the reply. Puts my mind at ease, as I ordered them before I presumed they were wrong:P

are the dirt cheap Fizik shoes at Planet X this years model or the 2011/2012 which is a different fit?

  • Registered Users Posts: 447 ✭✭Smokeyskelton

As far as I'm aware they are last year's model. I nabbed a pair, and they don't look like those currently on the Fizik site. The current models look like this: http://www.fizik.it/en/shoes/road/R3_uomo/ it seems.

I like the old fit, but I haven't tried the new ones, so I can't compare.

Advice please. I have being using spd pedals and Lidl shoes for past 18 months and they have been grand. If I upgrade to the Fizik shoes could somebody recommended pedals from planetx? Will cleats come with the pedals or shoes? Thanks

Cleats will come with the pedals. In terms of a pedal to recommend, it all depends on your budget/level and whether you have a brand/system preference (presumably not the latter, since you're ditching SPD). Any of the Look or Shimano SPD-SL should suffice for you though, and I've been using the entry-level R540 SPD-SL for some time and find them fine.

was in Cycle Surgery in Dundrum today looking for helmets and they have some good deals on Giro Road helmets.... 41 euro for the Savant which is much better than other renowed online retailers but in limited colours.

Didn't buy as i've a big head and the Kask looks much smaller on me but are 100 euro... this cycling craic is expensive!
