Glow plug light flashing

The glow plug warning light is flashing on my 1998 Ducato 2.5 TD. It comes on and flashes for a period - this can vary from a few minutes to being on continuously from Macroom to Cork. (The relay can be heard clicking when the light is on ). I have disconnected the lead to the glow plug on the manifold so it won't be…
